Summer has arrived; it’s time to hit the beach. Hong Kongers favourite beach holiday destinations are now on sale at Expedia, the leading global online travel agency, where the summer’s hottest packages are as much as 40% off original prices to Kenting, Okinawa, Hua Hin, Bali, Pattaya and more.

In celebration of summer,Expedia.com.hk’s Facebook page today launches the “Calling all beach bums” contest, giving away a hotel and flight package for a dream beach holiday in Greece.

For those looking for a different kind of freedom this summer, book a trip to one of the world’s famed nude beaches. Nude beaches first became popular in 1950s France when people began to take on the view of naturism, believing that it is a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterised by self-respect of people with different opinions and of the environment. Australia, Brazil, Greece, France, image002 (1)Germany and Spain now also have thriving nude beach communities.

Contrary to the popular opinion that Hong Kongers are conservative, a survey conducted by Expedia.com.hklast summer found that a surprisingly high number of our fellow Hong Kongers (37% of those surveyed) have gone topless or nude while at the beach.

Expedia.com.hk’s “Calling all beach bums” Facebook competition kicks-off today.  To entre, contestants must post a comment stating why they deserve a nude beach holiday before 3 June for the chance to win a 6D5N trip to Mykonos to bask in the sunshine while in their birthday suit!

Expedia recommends The 5 Best Nude Beaches in the World:

  1. Paradise Beach, Mykonos, Greece

Mykonos is a very popular beach destination, attracting a vast amount of visitors every year, with a reputation as one of the best party islands in the Aegean. The Paradise Beach is one of the earliest beaches to become well known as a nude refuge, and also boasts spectacular views and smooth sands beneath your feet.

  1. Beach Abrico, Brazil

This white beach with sparkling sand is hidden by the surrounding lush tropical plants to ensure everyone on the beach feels comfortable enough to go nude. The beach is rural, which mean visitors need to rent a car or take a taxi to get there. Nudity is strictly enforced at this Brazilian beach.

  1. Barinatxe Nudist Beach, Spain

One end of the Barinatxe Beach is a nudist area. It is sheltered by the surrounding hills. Every September, there is a nude race attracting top runners and nudists worldwide to participate.

  1. Maslin Beach. Australia

Maslin Beach is the most popular nude beach in Australia. The southern half of the beach was declared Australia’s first official nude beach as early as 1975. The Maslin Beach Nude Olympics are held annually, including competitions such as three-legged races.

  1. Leucate Plage, France

The Leucate Plage in France has always been on the list of top nude beaches. The beach has beautiful white sand and is defined as the ultimate classic Mediterranean nudist beach. The beach is also private and spacious, making it ideal for first timers. Visitors can even go to the naturist village and experience a dinner at a naturist restaurant.

Nude beach etiquette:

  1. No cameras or smart phones meaning absolutely no photos.
  2. Do accessorize. If you are first timer, you can show up with hats and shades.
  3. When you see the sign “nude beach”, make sure you are completely nude. When you see the sign “clothing optional”, you can choose to be topless or completely nude.
  4. Bring a towel. You will need it when you are sunbathing on the beach or a lounger.
  5. Don’t stare and avoid commenting on your naked neighbours.
  6. Hygiene is important; you should be odour free if you are going to a nude beach.

If nudity is not on the cards, Expedia.com.hk also recommends five hidden beach destinations in Asia. You can hit the following beaches to avoid the crowds.

Top 4 Hidden Beaches in Asia:

  1. Sand Bay Beach, Jibei Island, Taiwan

This beach is definitely one of Asia’s best kept secrets. Sand Bay Beach, also known as Jibei Beach is located at Peng Hu. The pale golden sand beach is also a popular place for swimmers and divers, and a wonderful spot for to spend hot summer afternoons.

  1. Aharen Beach, Kerama Islands, Akajima, Okinawa, Japan

It is one of Thailand’s last unspoiled island getaways, says The Guardian. Fishing villages, rain forests and palm trees are all you can find in the beach vacation paradise.

  1. Southwestern Beach, Koh Rong Island, Cambodia

Located on the second largest island in Cambodia, at Koh Rong visitors arrive to a paradise, with a long white sand beach, coral reef, fish and everything you wish for a stress-free beach vacation.
