Visit Sunshine Coast (VSC), Tourism Noosa (TN) and the Sunshine Coast Airport (SCA) are launching an integrated multi-media campaign, in partnership with Air New Zealand, to attract Kiwis across the ‘ditch’ to experience a warmer winter on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The campaign, which is funded by the Sunshine Coast Aviation Partnership (VSC, TN and SCA), will run till 11 June to promote direct flights from Auckland to the Sunshine Coast commencing in July. The promotion encourages Kiwis to fly direct to the Sunshine Coast to arrive by lunchtime and experience all the region has to offer as they lap up the mid-20C temperatures typical of the region over ‘winter’.

Air New Zealand will operate direct flights between Auckland and Sunshine Coast Airport between 5 July and 27 October, with flights starting from NZ$723. Special accommodation rates are available through the Air New Zealand website, with an extensive range of accommodation deals available across the region.

The Air New Zealand campaign highlights the fact that New Zealand travellers can depart Auckland in the morning and be dipping their toes in the famed Sunshine Coast waters by lunchtime. It also showcases the many activities, from dining to adventure, on offer across the region from Caloundra and Mooloolaba to Noosa and the Hinterland.

A series of informative blogs and videos have been developed highlighting the diversity of attractions available across the Sunshine Coast region covering the region’s beaches, adventure experiences, food, arts, and festivals.

The Sunshine Coast has a wide range of festivals scheduled over the winter period including the debut of The Curated Plate food festival in August, the Queensland Garden Expo, Noosa Alive, Gympie Muster, Caloundra Music Festival, the Horizon Arts Festival and the Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival.

The campaign is being promoted across various media channels and on Air New Zealand’s website.

Visit Sunshine Coast CEO Simon Latchford said that direct flights from Auckland had been a great success for the Sunshine Coast over the past six years, with 71,000 Kiwis visiting the Sunshine Coast in 2018, up 10.6% on 2017.

“For many New Zealanders, the Sunshine Coast is now a ‘second home’ because our warm climate and laid-back atmosphere makes it a very attractive alternative to their chilly local winters,” said Mr Latchford.

“We can also offer incredible diversity in the one destination – from popular beaches in Mooloolaba, Coolum and Caloundra, through to rich dining experiences, adventure sports and laid-back touring in the Hinterland. It means we offer plenty of reasons for Kiwis to return regularly to the Sunshine Coast.”

Tourism Noosa CEO Steve McPharlin said that New Zealand has long been an important visitor market for Noosa.

“We’re pleased to be a key partner in this campaign with Air New Zealand to further grow the market for the whole Sunshine Coast region and look forward to welcoming our Kiwi mates to Noosa. Kiwis love Noosa’s friendly villages, from Hastings Street to Noosaville, as well as the many unique experiences on offer, from the Noosa Everglades to absolute beachfront dining on Noosa Main Beach.”

Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Andrew Brodie said that the Air New Zealand flights were both a valuable inbound exercise and opportunity for local Sunshine Coast residents to experience New Zealand.

“With the new runway opening at the end of 2020, we are expecting New Zealand to be one of our principal growth areas, and the success of the seasonal flights over recent years augurs well for expanding both the volume of flights and the destinations we connect with across the Tasman,” said Mr Brodie.
