Peter Kuruvita, the Noosa-based chef well known for presenting SBS TV series; My Sri Lanka, Island Feast and Mexican Fiesta will turn the foodie spotlight from his ancestral home in Sri Lanka to his new home on the Sunshine Coast with a brand new television series Peter Kuruvita’s Coastal Kitchen.
The six part series, supported by Tourism and Events Queensland in conjunction with Visit Sunshine Coast, will see the remarkably talented chef meet up with passionate food producers against epic coastal and hinterland backdrops before heading back to his Noosa Beach House restaurant on Hastings Street to create some family-friendly dishes.
The series, filmed on location around the Sunshine Coast, is scheduled to air prime time on SBS later this year.
Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington said the filming of the series helps cement the Sunshine Coast as a prime destination to nourish and refresh.
“SBS viewers love food and travel and this series will highlight the rich offerings of the Sunshine Coast,” Ms Coddington said.
“The Sunshine Coast is well known for having some of the best beaches, climate and lifestyle in the world but also has high-quality fresh produce, best-in-country cooking schools, incredible restaurants and vibrant farmers markets.
“The six episodes take Peter and his crew around one of the best known food trails in the country and showcases the diversity and quality of producers who live and work on our doorstep.”
Peter Kuruvita said he is more than ready to show off his neighbourhood to the world.
“I’ve been working with a bunch of passionate producers stretching from Gympie and Kin Kin all the way to the Glasshouse Mountains since I moved to the Sunshine Coast three years ago, and I’m looking forward to telling their stories.
“I am so excited to be able to share the fresh flavours of local produce from my new home in Noosa with SBS audiences. Tropical and coastal like my usual playground of Sri Lanka and the Pacific, the range of produce is diverse and the producers passionate about the environment and sustainability.
From the pristine coast line to the fertile hinterland, come with me on a journey of discovery through some Queensland’s most picturesque locations and diverse food regions.”
When he’s not travelling the world, Peter can often be found surfing with his wife and three boys on Main Beach at Noosa.
The new SBS series is made up of six 30 minute episodes and will air in Australia later this year, with a potential for global distribution thereafter. The new television series Peter Kuruvita’s Coastal Kitchen is produced by The Precinct.
