509673_num1099383_600x600The Bellarine is a golfer’s paradise, boasting four outstanding public courses which are consistently rated as some of the best in Australia. Located an easy 80-minute drive from Melbourne, all courses are set against the backdrop of Victoria’s stunning coastal scenery. Combine this with an abundance of gourmet food and wine experiences and plenty of accommodation options and you have the ideal destination for a weekend golf getaway.

Barwon Heads is a picturesque golf village by the sea, and here you’ll find Thirteenth Beach Golf Links. As well as being the host venue for the Victorian Open Championships held annually in February, the two courses at Thirteenth Beach have also received many awards and accolades. The Beach Course was recently ranked number six in the top 100 public access courses in Australia list by Golf Australia magazine. The neighbouring Creek Course is also a big drawcard, designed by Tony Cashmore and Sir Nick Faldo. Accommodation is available on site at the Barwon Heads Resort

Hot on the heels of Thirteenth Beach is Barwon Heads Golf Club, ranked number seven on the best public access course list. This stunning course is carved into the dunes, with a clubhouse that is steeped in history. Opened in 1924, the magnificent clubhouse, listed by Heritage Victoria, is famed for its ambience and old world charm and offers breathtaking views over the coastline towards Port Phillip Heads. Fantastic packages are available at the onsite accommodation, which include guaranteed tee times and full use of the club facilities including the restaurant, bar and billiard room.

A short drive from Barwon Heads you’ll find Curlewis Golf Club, one of the hidden gems of the Bellarine. Its naturally undulating couch fairways are in excellent condition thanks to recent water initiatives. The course sits in a prime position overlooking Port Phillip Bay and the nearby You Yangs, offering stunning sunset vistas. The clubhouse is a comfortable spot for a post round beverage, or head across the road to Leura Park Estate, which is just one of the region’s world-class wineries.

Nearby you will also find Scotchmans Hill,  Oakdene Vineyards, Terindah Estate, Jack Rabbit Vineyard, McGlashan Wallington Estate, Banks Road Vineyard and Bellarine Estate. All are worth a visit to stock up on local, cool climate wine or to sample some of the region’s renowned produce in their winery restaurants.

Add golf courses at Queenscliff (sitting on the scenic Swan Island), Portarlington and Point Lonsdale to the impressive list of courses on offer and you will see golfers truly are spoilt for choice in this part of the world. If choosing which course to play is too hard, then Coastal Golf Victoria can help with planning the perfect golf holiday. They can arrange an all-inclusive package that takes in the highlights of the region including accommodation, transport and booking tee times.

A wide range of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets is available on the Bellarine. In addition to accommodation at Barwon Heads Resort and Barwon Heads Golf Club, golfers can choose from family friendly holiday parks, boutique hotels or luxury B&Bs. Options located close to the regions premier golf courses include cabin style accommodation at Barwon Heads Caravan Park, self-contained units with a spa and open fire at Seahaven Village or cottage accommodation at Ti-Tree Village Ocean Grove.
