SWISS supports first Geneva Lake Festival with naming and flypast of its new Bombardier C Series aircraft
SWISS made its own striking contribution to the current Geneva Lake Festival today with a spectacular overflight of the festival site by its brand-new Bombardier C Series aircraft. Prior to this, SWISS formally named its second Bombardier CS100, registration HB-JBB, Canton de Genève in a ceremony at Geneva Airport. The Geneva Lake Festival – the first of its kind – continues until 14 August.
As part of its substantial expansion of its services for Western Switzerland, SWISS has been a strong supporter of the new Geneva Lake Festival. These efforts culminated today in a low pass of the festival site by its new ‘Whisperjet’, the Bombardier C Series aircraft. The state-of-the-art short- and medium-haul twinjet will form part of SWISS’s Genevabased aircraft fleet from April 2017 onwards.
Second CS100 named Canton de Genève
Having taken delivery of its first new Bombardier C Series aircraft, CS100 HB-JBA, on 1 July and subsequently named it Kanton Zürich, SWISS has now bestowed the name Canton de Genève on its second such twinjet, HB-JBB. The formal naming at Geneva Airport today was jointly performed by Luc Barthassat, the Geneva Government Councillor responsible for The Environment, Transport & Agriculture, and Geneva actress and comedienne Brigitte Rosset, in a ceremony that was overseen by SWISS’s Head of Western Switzerland Lorenzo Stoll.
SWISS’s first Bombardier CS100 HB-JBA received the traditional ‘water salute’ from the airport fire service following its first landing in Geneva at 16:00, and then provided a fitting backdrop to the naming of HB-JBB, for which a model was used to represent the aircraft. HB-JBA later took off again to perform a spectacular low flypast of the Geneva Lake Festival site at 18:30. HB-JBB will enter SWISS service later this month.
“I am hugely proud of our new Bombardier C Series, which we’ll be operating from Geneva from the second quarter of next year,” says SWISS’s Lorenzo Stoll. “We’re very grateful to our partners the Geneva airport authority and Canton Geneva for all the support they constantly give us in developing our air services for the Geneva region. And 2/2 in naming our second C Series aircraft Canton de Genève, we at SWISS are further underlining our commitment to Western Switzerland. So we have two events to celebrate today: this innovative aircraft in the colours of Canton Geneva, and our spectacular Geneva flypast!”
