Sydney makes top 20 world airports. And winner is…

March 27, 2018 Headline News No Comments Email Email

The world’s best airports have been announced and Sydney just squeaked into the top 20 – with the global winner being an airport not too far from Australia, that Australians know and love.

The international winner was Changi Airport Singapore, voted by air travellers the World’s Best Airport for the sixth consecutive year, to take the title at the 2018 World Airport Awards. This is the first time in the history of the awards that an airport has won the prestigious title for six years running.

Changi gives passengers what they want – a simple formula but obviously one that works.

Changi Airport was also the repeat winner of the award for the Best Airport Leisure Amenities. The accolades were awarded at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Stockholm last week.

Sydney was voted the 20th best airport in the world, beating Brisbane by two points. Brisbane came 16th last year.

Auckland Airport came 24th this year, falling two points.

Melbourne was Australia’s next best airport after Brisbane. It came in at 27th in the world (up three points). Melbourne Airport’s new Terminal 4 was named world’s third-best low-cost carrier terminal.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast Airport came in at 55th (down five points) and Perth Airport made 59th, a leap of 12 places from last year’s rankings. Its big bound in the ratings gave Perth the title of second most improved airport in the world (after Rome Fiumicino).

Adelaide came 78th, which is five points lower than last year. Even the airport’s excellent Coopers Alehouse didn’t save it from demotion.
