Sydney Opera House presents Club Swizzle

October 14, 2014 Lifestyle No Comments Email Email

Following three outstanding summer seasons, the creators of La Soirée bring the world premiere of their brand new show CLUB SWIZZLE to Sydney Opera House in January 2015.

unnamedIn the depths of the Opera House Studio, the most depraved souls in show business gather around a bar where legends are made. It’s a melee of indecent cabaret, outrageous acrobatics and infectious revelry, all backed by a band with a repertoire as big as their bar tab.

Leading the way to the bar is NYC nightlife legend, comedian, and renowned entertainer Murray Hill, “the hardest working middle-aged man in show business.”  A relentless retro shtick slinger, larger-than-life personality and freewheeling ad-libber, Murray’s razor sharp wit and frenetic showman antics have delighted folks worldwide for over a decade. Named “the emcee of choice” (New York Magazine) in the alt-cabaret scene, Murray hosted Dita Von Teese’s sold out US tour and LA residency at The Roxy on Sunset.

Order a martini then be thankful for whatever is delivered by The Bartenders – acrobats Tom Flanagan (Tom Tom Crew, Kaput),Daniel Catlow (Scotch & Soda, Cantina) and Joren Dawson(Soap, La Soirée). Working their way around, over, under and across the custom built bar the boys will show off breathtaking skills on straps, teeterboard and Chinese pole.

The house band, Mickey Lira and The Night Caps create the thumping sound track to what could be the best night of your life. An ARIA, APRA and AFI award winner, Lira’s unique style has found a place as the staple score for many TV shows (Rake, Bogan Pride), films (The Hunter), circus, burlesque and carnival acts. For The Night Caps so long as the booze keeps flowing so will the tunes.

First in the ever-changing line up of guest stars will be world famous post-post-modern diva Meow Meow for January shows. Meow’s kamikaze cabaret has entertained at the parties of David Bowie, Pina Bausch and Mikhail Baryshnikov to name just a few. Last seen in Sydney with her solo work Little Match Girl, Meow has won numerous Green Room Awards, Helpmann Theatre Awards, Sydney Theatre Critics and the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Prize amongst others.

Our February diva will be glamorous chanteuse ARIA nominatedAli McGregor. Ali traverses the worlds of opera and pop culture like no other. After five years as an award winning principal Soprano with Opera Australia she ran away to join the circus and travelled the world with La Soirée before creating her own cabaret-variety shows that have wowed in sell out seasons at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

More guest stars will announced in coming weeks.

Leave your coat and your hang ups at the door as you enter CLUB SWIZZLE, a place where every night will be unlike any other. With no stage, no rules and no regrets, there’s no place quite like it. So order yourself something stiff and get ready to dive into the deep end of debauchery at CLUB SWIZZLE.
