unnamed (12)SMC Conference & Function Centre (SMC) has recently been named as a finalist in the Sydney City region of the NSW Business Chamber Business Awards 2015 for Excellence in Sustainability.

The Business Awards, run by the NSW Business Chamber, recognises and celebrates business excellence across NSW. Located in the Sydney CBD, SMC is the only venue nominated as a finalist in the Excellence in Sustainability category.

Scott Cooper, Director of Sales, SMC, explains it is an honour to be recognised for the venue’s sustainability efforts, which are core to its operation, by such a preeminent industry body and highly-regarded awards program.

“SMC has always had a green policy, since its construction 35 years ago, so it’s a matter of pride and a welcome validation to have been named a finalist in a category that is so close to our hearts.

“The team at SMC works tirelessly to ensure best practice sustainability across the board and this achievement is a testament to their drive and innovation,” says Mr Cooper.

From ordering only fresh, seasonal local produce for their catering and closely monitoring, auditing and donating excess, to converting all signage from printed collateral over to low energy, electronic posters, SMC strives every day to fulfil its promise to be one of Sydney’s greenest venues, while still delivering an exemplary customer experience.

Mr Cooper continues, “As a venue, a green policy is no longer a ‘nice to have’ but rather a business essential. It’s something that clients expect in a venue. Our ability to meet that need and deliver on our business sustainability goals, whilst maintaining an impeccable standard of high-end service, has proven integral to maintaining good business and building solid relationships.”

A unique venue with landmark status, SMC spans over 4,000 square metres with 16 function rooms and five lodge rooms across eight levels, and its architecture and heritage are of merit, being one of Sydney’s most architecturally significant buildings.
