Sydney’s taste for food and fashion unearthed at Westfield Sydney

Westfield Sydney has taken Sydney’s obsession with food and fashion to a new level with the unveiling of ‘Food is Fashion’ – a stunning photographic exhibition that unearths real shopper fashion and pairs the looks with signature dishes from the premium restaurants in the centre.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural ‘Edible Fashion’ Collection, Westfield Sydney handed the creative reins to style hunter and fashion blogger, Nicole Cooper of to curate the exhibition including finding the best fashion styles worn by Westfield Sydney shoppers and work with Westfield Sydney to find the best dishes to pair them with.

“It was such an exciting project to work on. Westfield Sydney really is the style hub of this city when it comes to food and fashion. The shopper style in Westfield Sydney is just as interesting and adventurous as the dishes you will find in the centre” said Nicole Cooper.

The photographs, captured by food stylist and food photography duo, Janet Mitchell and Tanya Zouev, highlight the intricate connections between food and fashion and the trends that bind them.

“It was an incredibly creative process where we took the fashion ‘look’ and then carefully crafted the most popular dishes to match. We paired a classic dish of mango sticky rice from Chat Thai with a vintage yellow shift dress, and a beef tartare with edible flowers from Cara & Co was teamed with a digital floral print dress,” said Zouev.

“Who knew a silk scarf could look like pork baklava – but it does” added Zouev, who has over 25 years photographic experience having worked with the likes of Margret Fulton and Suzanne Gibbs.

The exhibition was officially unveiled on the evening of Wednesday, 24 July at Cloudy Bay Fish Co. and will be open free to the public from today until Thursday, 15 August.

Westfield Regional Manager Rachele Godridge said ‘Food is Fashion’ is a unique exhibition that brings to life the style and delights within the centre.

“The Westfield Sydney shopper is sophisticated and stylish with a great appreciation for both food and fashion experiences. It was fantastic to engage and collaborate with our shoppers and see how their personal style transcends into food, bringing it back to the fabulous food offering we have under the one roof,” said Godridge.

The collection will showcase pairings from the following retailers:

  • Chat Thai
  • Xanthi
  • Cloudy Bay Fish Co.
  • Via Del Corso
  • Ragu Pasta and Wine Bar
  • Victoria Room Tea Salon
  • Reuben & Moore
  • Chinta Ria … Mood For Love
  • Ippudo
  • Snag Stand
  • Jones the Grocer
  • Din Tai Fung
  • Cara & Co
  • Sushi Hon
  • Happy Lab
  • Sydney Tower Dining

As part of the ‘Food is Fashion’ exhibition, Westfield Sydney will also be asking shoppers to share their own culinary tastes, with an Instagram promotion.

Shoppers simply have to post a picture of their favourite dish on Instagram, tag it with #foodisfashion and they’ll go in the running to win one of four ultimate dining experiences at Westfield Sydney.
