While hiking continues to soar in global popularity, the proportion of Australians who go hiking and bushwalking has sky-rocketed over the last five years.
An estimated 5.3 million Australians, or 27 percent of the population, love the great outdoors and go bush walking or hiking either regularly or occasionally – an increase from 15 percent since 2010.
With the growing trend of Australians choosing to go hiking for leisure, Mountain Designs says wearing the right gear is essential to your comfort on the trail.
“Comfort is crucial for any outdoor activity which is why effective layering is essential to keep you dry,” says Mountain Designs CEO Caroline Machado Campos.
Here are the top things to consider when it comes to outdoor gear:
- Do not compromise on quality
- Invest in lightweight clothing with technical benefits like warming, cooling, waterproof and windproof qualities
- Opt for breathable fabric
- Look at the make-up of the fabric, C-KNIT technology and GORE-TEX fabric allow body moisture to escape and evaporate while smooth inner layers allow fabric to slide easily over other layers of clothing
- Go for comfort
- Talk to an expert to understand the options available to you
When it comes to gear to grab before setting out on a hike, Australian outdoor specialists Mountain Designs have a 40-year history of developing high-performance and innovative clothing.
“We just celebrated the release of our Pro-Elite Transient Rainjacket, which completely transcends what people think and know about rainwear.
“With the reliable, world renowned Gore-Tex® waterproof, windproof performance and the latest Gore® C-KNIT™ backer technology, which enhances breathability and packablity, it is the superior feeling of comfort that truly sets this jacket apart.
“Our stores are overwhelming telling us that once customers try the Transient on, they simply don’t want to take it off”, said Ms Machado Campos.
“Mountain Designs is proudly the first Australian brand to use this new Gore-Tex® C-Knit technology in our own signature clothing, which simply demonstrates our commitment to in-house innovation and cutting edge performance”.
Ms Machado Campos says there are a number of innovative products available that will keep bushwalkers performing at their best in all conditions.
“Whether you are hiking, skiing, travelling or climbing a mountain, choose clothing that will keep you protected from a variety of harsh weather conditions,” she concluded.
