TAM Airlines, part of LATAM Airlines Group, has had its wine lists acclaimed at the prestigious “Cellars in the Sky” awards for the third consecutive year.

The awards, organised by Business Traveller Magazine, recognise the best quality wines offered by airlines worldwide, and have been running since 1985.

TAM Airlines took silver medal in the “Best First Class White Wine” category, with its Dr. Bürklin Wolf Pechstein Grand Cru 2009 bottles. In turn, its Vinho Porto Cor Croft Late 2005 won bronze in the “Best First Class Fortified Wine” category. Both wines were selected by a panel of expert judges from 250 different nominations across more than 30 airlines.Sidebar LBH 250x250

The awards took place recently at a glittering event in London’s Trinity House and were collected by Martin Modarelli, commercial director for the UK and Northern Europe at LATAM Airlines Group.

Modarelli commented, “It’s an honour for us that Business Traveller Magazine has demonstrated its trust and confidence in TAM Airlines’ wine lists for the third year running. We will continue working hard so that our onboard service is of the highest quality and to ensure we meet and surpass the expectations of our passengers”.

Arthur Azevedo, executive director of the Sommeliers Association of Sao Paulo and the man behind TAM Airlines’ award-winning wine lists commented, “Bürklin-Wolf is one of Germany’s most highly acclaimed producers. With over 400 years’ experience, the property is located in Pfalz in southeast Germany, an area where grapes are harvested at the optimum moment. All its wines are produced via biodynamic techniques from vine to bottle, guaranteeing the purest expression of the terroir of Pfalz. The Pechstein vine is classified as Grand Cru and this excellent Riesling combines the pureness of fruit with complex and sophisticated undertones. A true work of art from Germany’s modern day viticulture”.

Regarding the Croft Port Late Bottled Vintage 2005 (LBV), the sommelier highlighted that it is a wine of unique expression and quality, produced by one of the world’s most traditional and heralded vineyards, Vino de Oporto. Azevedo goes onto say, “LBV is a very particular style of Port and only comes from exceptional harvests that unite the potency of a Vintage Port and the elegance and complexity derived from its four years in an oak barrel”.
In 2013 TAM won the “Best Business Class Red Wine” category with the French Château Bel-Air-Ouÿ (2007). In 2012, TAM was recognised with two gold medals in the “Best First Class Wine” (French Clos Canon, 2008) and the “Airline with most improved First Class wine cellar” categories.
