Tapas Bar At Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong Presents Turkish Enchantment

Between 1 and 12 October 2013, Kowloon Shangri‑La, Hong Kong will present a Turkish food promotion at Tapas Bar.  

Native Turkish Chef Haydar Inal, executive chef of the Ankara Palas State Guest House in Turkey, will fly in as guest chef and bring diners an array of authentic specialties.  A selection of Turkish wine, cockatils and mocktails is also available.

tapas turkish drink2 lThe history of Turkish cuisine can be traced back to the Ottoman Empire in the 17th century, when homes were fitted with huge kitchens and feasts were central to daily life, the military, religion and even politics.  Due to Turkey’s strategic position on the 30-kilometre Bosphorus strait separating Europe and Asia, established trade routes gave the Turks freedom to experiment with spices and textures in their food, which spans a mélange of influences from Central Asian, Middle Eastern and Balkan cuisines.  With a rich variety of natural resources, its culinary tradition emphasises using local fresh ingredients and seasonal produce.

During this 12-day promotion, diners can bask in a range of traditional flavoursome Turkish favourites.  Popular böreks include Su Böreği (Traditional Turkish Cheese Pastry), Gül Böreği (Ground Beef Pastry), Fincan Böreği (Lamb Liver Pie) and Puf Böreği (Cheese and Parsley Puff).  Mezzes range from Cerkez Tavuğu (Circassian Chicken) to Saksuka (Dried Fried Aubergines in Tomato Garlic Sauce), Kisir (Bulgur Salad), Arnavut Cigeri (Spiced Mutton Liver) and Zeytinyağlı Yaprak Sarma (Vine Leaves with Rice and Mint Raisins Cinnamon).

Guests can also look forward to Tas Kebab (Lamb Stew with Vegetables), Coban Kavurma (Fried Beef with Vegetables), Kilic Balığı Sis (Broiled Skewered Swordfish), Tavuk Beyti (Chicken Roll), Domatesli Karides (Tomato Shrimp Sacmpi) and Dalyan Kofte (Beef Meat Ball).

tapas turkish lGuests can add a sweet note to the night with Revani (Semolina Cake Soaked in Light Syrup), Sütlac (Milk Pudding with Rice), Baklava (Layered Pastry with Pistachio) and many other Turkish desserts.

To complement the delicacies, diners can soak in the shortlisted beverage selection, including Pembe Kopuk Rosé Brut, Kavaklidere, Anatolia, Turkey, NV, a Turkish sparkling rosé wine, six special cocktails and mocktails with hints of Turkish flavours and aromas.

Tapas Bar is a wine bar where guests can find a wide selection of New World wines and international tapas complemented with harbour views.  Guests can choose to enjoy a glass of wine and international tapas in the comfort of the bar or under the stars in the open air.
