The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently announced the “2016 People’s Choice Awards Thailand” which were voted by Chinese tourists. There were 17 winners with categories including tourist attractions, hotels, restaurants, Thai food, spas, shopping malls, golf courses and others.
The North won a trifecta of awards with 137 Pillars House winning the Favourite Boutique Hotel category. Favourite Destination was Chiang Mai and Favourite Golf Course was Gassan Khuntan Golf Course and Resort in Lampang which is approximately 60 minutes from Chiang Mai.
The programme was launched in 2015 and voting was done in partnership with Tencent which owns a number of popular Chinese online channels such as Wechat, QZone, QQmessenger and Tencent News. More than 3.2 million people participating in the voting.
The Chinese market is important to Thailand, attracting 7.9 million visitors last year with an estimated 376 billion Baht in revenue.
“We are delighted to receive this recognition for both Chiang Mai and 137 Pillars House, in this important and competitive market” said Anne Arrowsmith, General Manager.
