Rolf Buchholz - unusual appearance

Rolf Buchholz – unusual appearance

Dubai, home port of Qantas partner Emirates Airline, apparently found the appearance of the man, who has a multifariously pierced face, a cloven tongue and tattoos on all parts of his body, just too bizarre to tolerate.

Rolf Buchholz, 55, was travelling to Dubai to appear at the Cirque le Soir nightclub in Dubai’s Fairmont Hotel – a circus-themed venue that boasts outré attractions like sword swallowers, stilt walkers, fire eaters, theatrical screamers, dwarfs, bearded ladies and burlesque dancers, newspapers in the US have reported.

Buchholz says he was permitted through Dubai immigration in the routine manner and his passport was stamped – but then someone apparently found his appearance too outrageous.

As well as his heavily illustrated body, Buchholz has imitation horns set into his head. His 453 piercings have earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records and veneration from a subculture that admires grotesque bodily alterations.

Dubai immigration apparently saw only his face, not the startling tattoos and piercings that decorate his nether regions. A glimpse of his face was enough. They ushered him into a room at the airport and deported him.

Buchholz, who works in information technology, is concerned that airport authorities may have mistaken him for a devil worshipper, a sorcerer or a practitioner of black magic.
