With this, TCEB has realized the importance of developing and preparing entrepreneurs, MICE operators and all individuals related to the meeting, incentives, conventions and exhibitions industry to prepare both our offensive and defensive action plans for the possible jobs and earnings that will be generated from embracing the ASEAN Economic Community.”

Furthermore, TCEB has put in place the MICE development plan in preparation for the implementation of the AEC under the long-term master plan for the MICE industry’s development over a five-year period. This master plan is in line with the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan applied during 2012 – 2016.

TCEB has cooperated with several agencies to appoint a joint working committee to bring on the readiness to embark on the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The private and public cooperation comprises of TCEB, Tourism Department, Trade Negotiations Department, Trade Exhibition Association (Thai), Thai Hotels Association and Convention Promotion Fund.

The working committee will set the policy direction on the development of MICE industry toward the implementation of AEC in order to prepare plans that will be put in place under the ASEAN economic cooperation framework. There are four directions, first of which is preparing reports and in-depth studies on the impacts to MICE industry under the AEC framework. Secondly,TCEB will provide continuous training to MICE operators in order to establish knowledge, understanding about the opportunity and obstacles, as well as impacts on different aspects under the ASEAN cooperation framework. Third direction is to prepare handbooks for MICE operators on their offensive-defensive tactics on entering the AEC, which operators can consult for their decision-making on business planning to maximize benefits for the regional integration under the AEC. The handbooks for personnel working in MICE industry will focus on two urgently necessary positions: MICE Coordinator and MICE Planning & Operations. These are necessary to upgrade the practice of personnel in MICE industry to be at par with accepted international standards. Fourth direction is to promote and support MICE operators to contribute their opinions in the ASEAN negotiation agreement.”

The opening of the training course, “ASEAN MICE Operations: Now For the Next Investment Excellence” is another aggressive activity under the second direction but its dimension has been enlarged from normal learning to bringing the experience in terms of seminar on fundamental knowledge and road shows abroad, which will give Thai MICE operators an insight on the business operation opportunities with neighboring countries in ASEAN.

“For TCEB’s operation over the next two years towards the development of MICE operators to embrace the AEC, the Bureau will implement offensive approach to tap small and medium-sized MICE operators. TCEB will implant the fundamental knowledge on offensive and defensive tactics of MICE industry in each business, economic cooperation between Thailand and main trading partners, investment potentials of MICE industry in each country, organization restructure strategies, as well as the rules and regulations of investment in the MICE industry. In the initial stage, the operation will cover four targeted markets under the government’s Economic Investment and International Trade Plan when entering the AEC. These countries are Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia. Thai MICE operators will have opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding about the investment planning to help support the growth of Thai MICE industry when AEC officially arrives. TCEB anticipates that participants of the training course will comprise of MICE operators from hotels, conventions and exhibitions, exhibition organizers and booth construction contractors. The training course will greatly benefit MICE operators to equip them with knowledge that will help them effectively benefit from the ASEAN Economic Community.” he concluded.
