TCELS and its allies will host “ASEAN Life Sciences Conference and Exhibition 2013”

TCELS and its allies will host “ASEAN Life Sciences Conference and Exhibition 2013”, an international conference that will be attended by the world’s leading life sciences experts including the biotech investment visionary and investor Steven Burrill.

Innovations in the field of science and technology from both public and private sectors will be exhibited in the event.

557F0565DDDE4C93DD1F53351B33D772S31 Hotel, Bangkok/ Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS), along with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), the Thai Industrial Pharmacist Association (TIPA), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, the Thai Association for Biotech Industries (ThaiBIO), and the Thai Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (TPMA), and the Asia Bio Business Partnering (ABBP) will host the ASEAN Life Sciences Conference, the first event of its kind in the region, which will take place between 17-19 July 2013, at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

TCELS CEO, Dr. Nares Damrongchai said that the conference is aimed at preparing and assuring ASEAN’s life sciences industry for the upcoming opportunities and future, by presenting technological and industrial innovations related to life sciences industry, including medicine, medical equipment, vaccines and biological products to showcase the technological advancement of ASEAN countries. At the same time, ASEAN countries can also prove their readiness to enter ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by preparing plans to align rules and regulations of each member countries, and promoting pairing and partnership of life sciences business groups among ASEAN allies and other countries to ensure business growth and cooperation in the future.

Dr. Nares announced that Steven Burrill, CEO of the world’s biotech and life sciences investment firm, and also long-time life sciences and biotech investment visionary, will participate in the conference and deliver the keynote speech on “ a Global Look at the Life Sciences Industry: Opportunities and Challenges”

“It is a great opportunity for Thailand and ASEAN countries to get an update of the world’s life sciences business advancements and trends, from the eyes of a life sciences guru. Besides, it is our honor to have many of the world’s renowned speakers, including those from the US Food and Drug Administration, experts from public and private sectors, universities and so on”, said Dr. Nares.

Furthermore, the conference will showcase the life sciences innovations from public and private sectors both locally and internationally, to be presented through exhibitions, seminars and lectures all through the three-day event. Highlights will be a major discovery of researchers from the Pharmacogenomics Project, Ramathibodi Hospital who can perform genome-based inspection of drug allergies and prediction of diseases from blood. This kind of examination method was originated for the first time in Thailand. Besides, there will be exhibition of the latest formula of anti-aging latex serum that can rejuvenate facial skin and reduce puffiness, wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes within two months. This innovation has come from a joint project between Prince of Songkla University and Naresuan University, under TCELS support. About 10,000 free product samples will also be distributed during the event.

Dr. Nares explained further that the conference will consist of three events. The first is the meeting on International Regulations for Products Registration co-hosted by the Food and Drug Administration. The second is the meeting of International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) co-hosted by the Thai Industrial Pharmacist Association (TIPA). The third is the Asia Bio Business Partnering (ABBP) Meeting, which is a collaboration of four ASEAN countries including China, Japan, Korea, plus Australia. It is aimed at developing life sciences business in Asia in order to increase international business value.

There will also be seminars on innovative technologies, medical equipments and robots, as well as natural extracts for therapeutic purpose. All these projects are supported by TCELS.

Rutjawate Taharnklaew Assistant Vice President Research & Development Center the Thai association for Biotech Industries (ThaiBIO) said ThaiBIO joining with TCELS to arrange 8th ABBP meeting in ASEAN Life Sciences Conference & Exhibition 2013, which will consisted of three events include 1.Meeting for future of ABBP 2. Presentation of Bio Business situation in each countries and 3. Business matching between companies in each partnership countries.

FDA Expert on Pharmaceuticals Standard Dr.Yuppadee Javroongrit that the FDA is co-hosting this event since it has a significant role in quality and standard control of pharmaceutical, food, herbal and cosmetic products as well as medical instruments. Due to technological advances, the agency has to improve its regulations in order to reach international standards at ASEAN, APEC and also at the global level. FDA representatives from European, American and ASEAN countries will participate in the conference to get an update about the development in production standards and readiness preparation of ASEAN countries’.

Ms. Sorada Wangmetheekul, president of the Thai Industrial Pharmacist Association (TIPA) and chairperson of ISPE (Thailand) said that this meeting marks the 10th anniversary of ISPE and also opens a chance for ISPE and TIPA members, business operators as well as people who are interested to learn more about new technologies and international standards of pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality control, via speakers from many countries around the world through the seminar in this event.
