The official theme for Fiji’s premier tourism industry event, the Fijian Tourism Expo (FTE) will be ‘Team Fiji’, Tourism Fiji has announced.
FTE is a uniquely designed Fijian tourism experience for international buyers and media where they get the opportunity to meet and engage with the Fijian tourism industry in a way that has not been possible in the past.
Now in its third year, the Tourism Fiji-hosted FTE 2016 will again take place at the Sheraton Ballroom and Convention Centre on Denarau from 3-5 May, 2016.
In 2015 the annual event had grown by over 30 per cent with over 600 participants attending over three days.
Tourism Fiji’s Director of Events, Ms Sally Cooper says 2016 will build on and enhance last year’s event and “showcase the great diversity and quality of products available in Fiji to our existing and new international industry partners.”
Ms Cooper explains that the theme for FTE 2016 was conceived from the idea that rather than going to the global market as individuals, ‘Destination Fiji’ is about everyone coming together to represent Fiji as a team.
“Team Fiji is all about coming together with a view of building a bigger and better tourism industry in a sustained and holistic way. This is by working with the Ministry of Tourism and tourism industry stakeholders to increase the bed inventory and improve the infrastructure for the Tourism Market, targeting niche markets to attract a greater variety of tourists to our pristine shores with an end focus on yield rather than volume,” Ms Coopers says.
Ms Cooper confirms that since registrations for FTE 2016 opened in November last year, the response from both buyers and exhibitors have been very pleasing with the majority of the Fijian industry partners signing up almost straight away.
An increase in registrations from Tourism Fiji’s long-haul markets, North America, UK and Europe has also been noted.
“Fiji is an aspirational pristine destination. We want our visitors from all parts of the world to stay longer and explore more – discover untouched rainforests and be able to stand on exclusive beaches without a building or people in sight and FTE is a the ideal platform to promote ‘Destination Fiji’ in this light ” she says.
“With Fiji Airways opening up flight routes through Singapore in April – FTE is also a perfect time to educate travel professionals from all over Asia about the variety of products and services available in Fiji, she adds.
