In celebration of Hilton Worldwide’s second annual Global Week of Service, October 6 – 12, more than 100 volunteers from the Maple Court corporate officeareworking on a series of projects at Breakspeare School, which caters for 64 children with disabilities, aged 2 – 19 years.

Community service is a tradition embedded in Hilton Worldwide’s culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across the six distinct brands and more than 250 properties in Europe. The Watford corporate office’s efforts are a part of Hilton Worldwide’s week-long celebration of the company’s commitment to serving the communities where team members live, work and travel, which this year includes hundreds of hands-on service projects globally.

“Breakspeare School is an integral part of the local community, providing opportunities and vital resources to students with special educational nonameneeds,”saidSimon Vincent, President, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton Worldwide. “We are proud to be able to extend our team members’ expertise in service and hospitality to the wider community, and are delighted to be supporting such a great cause. This event is one of many taking place across the EMEA region, including a coastal cleaning project in Istanbul and the construction of a school library in Frankfurt.”

On 8 October, more than 100 team members will be visiting Breakspeare School to help with a range of hands-on tasks including painting and improving the outdoor environment, reworking the school’s sensory garden, building raised garden beds and cleaning out the hydrotherapy pool, which is an invaluable facility for the school’s physiotherapy team.

Caroline Day-Lewis, deputy head teacher, Breakspeare School, comments, “We are absolutely delighted to be given this level of support from Hilton Worldwide. Breakspeare School always welcomes volunteers but we have never had the opportunity to work with so many on one day. With this many pairs of hands we will really transform some long-neglected areas of the school grounds and building, and further support the education of our pupils.”

Volunteers from the Watford Corporate Office are also working with a number of local charities on additional activities in the Watford area throughout the week, including a renovation project at the New Hope Trust Centre, which will see the transformation of the sleeping and living quarters of the centre that are a lifeline for many homeless people in the community. In addition, they will be supporting the work of ASCEND, a charity based in the heart of South Oxhey, by working on the Dig Deep Allotment project.

Across the U.K. Hilton Worldwide hotels are taking part in a variety of different activities, from serving lunch at a local homeless charity centre in Leeds and painting and decorating a community café in Birmingham. These activities demonstrate how team members’ passion and expertise can be used to spread the light and warmth of hospitality to local communities and charitable causes.

Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide’s largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together team members from across Hilton Worldwide’s corporate offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company’s connections with its communities and bringing it closer together as a global team.
