Empire State Development and New York State’s Division of Tourism, which administer the world-famous I LOVE NEW YORK tourism program, are joining with television host and museum expert Don Wildman in an effort to encourage travel throughout the state, particularly to New York’s copious collection of diverse museums.
Wildman hosts Travel Channel’s successful television series “Mysteries at the Museum.”  A resident of New York’s Hudson Valley, he  has led television viewers on a journey across the United States for ten seasons, delving deep into the vaults of America’s most revered institutions and unearthing wondrous treasures from its storied past. Previously host of the Travel Channel reality series “Off Limits” and History Channel’s “Cities of the Underworld,” he is one of the most recognizable faces in travel and lifestyle television.

“It’s with great excitement that I LOVE NEW YORK joins with Don Wildman to shine a spotlight on New York’s expansive array of fascinating museums,” said Gavin Landry, Executive Director of Tourism for Empire State Development. “The quality and variety of the state’s museums, a group that includes some of the best in the United States, are a vital part of New York tourism. We are grateful for Don’s participation and look forward to him sharing his insights with readers, fans and social media followers.”

“New York State is a hub of history and culture,” said Wildman. “Beyond the well-known collections of New York City, the state boasts literally hundreds of museums, covering everything from abolition and women’s rights, to aviation, art, nature – even Jell-O! Some of America’s most interesting events and greatest triumphs are preserved in these history-rich sites. I am excited to expose their yet untold truths, and am honored to do so with the renowned I LOVE NEW YORK program.”

The initiative will kick off on Thursday, May 19 at the New York by Rail Penn Station Travel Show, where Wildman will promote his article, “Discover New York’s Museums,” featured in Amtrak’s 2016 New York by Rail travel magazine. Widman’s piece chronicles his visits to scores of museums across New York State, and was created with I LOVE NEW YORK and the Museum Association of New York State.   Amtrak riders and Penn Station visitors are invited to stop by NY By Rail to meet Don and learn about the New York destinations easily accessible by train.

Wildman will then appear at Getaway Day, Metro-North’s Staycation Showcase, set to take place on Saturday, May 21 at Grand Central Terminal. Here, visitors will have the opportunity to preview New York’s top summer daytrip destinations and weekend escapes, through activity booths, trip giveaways, wine tastings and live musical performances.

Over the upcoming months, Wildman will also be guest blogging and engaging with I LOVE NEW YORK’s social media accounts to bring attention to the state’s dazzling array of fascinating museums and historic sites.

“New York State has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to our museums,” said Devin Lander, Executive Director of the Museum Association of New York State.  “We are fortunate to have such a great ambassador as Don Wildman to highlight them with visitors from all over the world.  Don has worked with MANY on our Artifact New York campaign, and now he will bring additional exposure to our state’s museums through the powerful marketing platforms of I LOVE NEW YORK.  I applaud the Division of Tourism for forging this relationship that will greatly benefit New York and our amazing museums all across the state.”I LOVE NEW YORK is one of the most popular travel destinations on social media, ranked the number one state tourism organization on Twitter and number two on Facebook. I LOVE NEW YORK’s Twitter following has increased 28 percent since 2014 from 250,405 to 321,000 followers, and Facebook has increased to more than 1.3 million fans and continues to grow.
