Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) increases flight frequencies and adjusts flight time table during Songkran festival, as well as offers special desserts to celebrate Thai New Year.
Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira, THAI President, said that to meet travel demands during the long Songkran holiday from 9-12 April 2015, THAI is increasing the number of domestic flights and operating with larger aircraft for an additional capacity of 10,000 seats. On the Bangkok-Phuket route and vice versa, THAI is adding seven flights. On the Bangkok to Chiang Mai route and vice versa 16 additional flights will be added, while two flights are added on the Bangkok-Krabi route and vice versa.
For this occasion THAI has prepared special Songkran desserts meticulously prepared by THAI chefs to celebrate the Thai New Year during 13-15 April 2015. On certain international THAI flights departing from Bangkok during this period, Royal First Class and Royal Silk Class passengers are served pandan sticky rice with fresh mango and Economy Class passengers are offered the pumpkin coconut milk with pandan sweet jelly. Desserts for domestic flights departing from Bangkok during lunch and dinner time include sticky rice with mango pie for Royal Silk Class passengers, while inbound passengers to Bangkok are offered sweet muskmelon. Domestic Economy Class passengers departing from Bangkok during lunch and dinner time can enjoy the mango coconut verrines, while Bangkok bound passengers are served “Lod Chong” in coconut milk jelly.
Additionally, as 2015 is the year promoting Discover Thainess, for the Songkran celebration, THAI has arranged a number of activities during 9-10 and 13-14 April 2015 at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Various performances will be presented, including a Thai cultural fashion show where traditional costumes from different periods of Thai history such as Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, and Rattanakosin periods will be showcased by THAI ground staff. There will also be a Thai musical event and show, traditional games, and a ceremony where water is poured onto the hands of elders as a sign of respect. At the THAI Royal First Class check-in passengers will be welcomed with a special Songkran souvenir, where the check-in setting is festively decorated, and staff are serving and attending to passengers in traditional Thai costumes.
