Some of the hospitality industry’s most astute thinkers are in Bangkok probing the sector’s investment climate in Asia at the Thailand Hotel Investment Conference (THIC) – an event that is providing a large assembly of international delegates with a coalface look at the opportunities in the world’s most exciting region.

A series of high-level, investment-focused discussions are underway, while the 350-plus delegates from more than 26 countries are being served an unequaled networking opportunity at the two-day event at Dusit Thani Bangkok that began today. Just over half the delegates have come from overseas and in record numbers.

A discussion not to be missed, where the nuances of investing in Asia are magnified and clarified, is the “Regional Hotel Investment Roundup: What Areas in Asia are Hot for Investment and Why?”

Tourism Solutions International Managing Director Eric Levy will moderate, as the panelist dissect market trends to provide the most comprehensive of insights. The panelists include Faez Jumabhoy, Managing Director and Head of Real Estate for CIMB Investment Bank, SC Capital Partners Managing Director Ian Lien and Jeremy Choy, Head of Real Estate, Greater China & South East Asia, BlackRock.

Shielding yourself from bad investments is revealed in “Insight Panel: Proactive Risk Management for Investing in Growth Markets” and “Risk Management Panel: Managing Cyclical Businesses, Epidemics, Currency Wars and Other Risks”.

The first panel is moderated by Boutique Group of Companies Group CEO Prab Thakral. The panelists include The Ascott Limited Chief Executive Officer Gerald Yong, Amburava Hotels & Resorts Managing Director Ashwani Bajaj and Lombard Investments Managing Director Pote Videt.

The second panel is moderated by CFO Innovation Asia Editor-in-Chief Cesar Bacani, and features Nova Group Founder Rony Fineman, Minor Hotel Group Vice President Finance Wayne Williams, Accor VP Finance & Administration Emmanuel Marion and Sipim Srisuro, Group Financial Controller for the Bandara Group.

Other notable speakers and panelists include Thanapol Sirithanachai, President of Golden Land Property Development, Dusit International Group Director of Development Rustom Vickers, Royal Group of Companies Managing Director Bobby Hiranandani, MGM Hospitality SVP International Development Rishi Kapour,  IC Partners Ltd CEO Charles Blocker and Jens Reichert, VP Development – Asia Pacific, Moevenpick Hotels and Resorts.

Networking highlights include IHIF Networking Express, a type of speed dating meet and greet as well as interactive roundtables – discussions on investment niches and hot topics with like-minded individuals.

The high number of delegates and countries attending THIC has confirmed its importance for the Asia Pacific hospitality investment community.

The draw to a destination recognized by the industry as the home of hospitality in Asia remains strong despite the ongoing political uncertainty in the capital, a fact further consolidated by the strong speaker line up .

Marilyn McHugh, Questex Hospitality + Travel Vice President, global events and organizer of THIC, said the event presented an opportunity to gain access to hundreds of new projects and contracts.

“It’s very gratifying to see the international confidence in Thailand,” she said. “The high sign-up rate of overseas delegates is proof of the Thai hospitality sector’s resilience in the face of the political uncertainty and demonstrates that there are no real concerns.”
