The Asian Hospital Management Conference was held at the stunning Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok this year, and the event attracted a record 880 delegates, representing 34 countries and 398 healthcare related organizations.

Now in its 12th year, the conference is Asia’s foremost learning forum for healthcare professionals and it provides the ideal opportunity to share best practice ideas that contribute to the ongoing success of the industry. The awards program recognizes those hospitals in Asia that have put into practice new services or improved their existing services during the previous year. Naturally, the standards are high, and hospitals need to demonstrate outstanding and innovative developments in order to succeed.

Four Thai hospitals collected awards this year, and these covered categories such as human resource development, improving medical equipment and facilities, and displaying innovation in PR and marketing projects. Also, the distinguished Thai physician, Dr Chalerm Harnphanich, collected the Hospital Management Asia 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award, in acknowledgement of his outstanding contribution to the industry.

Receiving such recognition is important for Thailand as health and wellness tourism is a significant contributor to the Thai economy. Indeed, between April 2012 and March 2013, it was responsible for generating 858,340 trips to Thailand and producing estimated earnings of 31.12 billion Baht. It appears that medical tourism has been growing worldwide, although Asia has seen the most significant increase and Thailand has clearly become one of the market leaders. As a result, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that health and wellness tourism will be one of the niche markets in its 2014 marketing plan.

TAT’s Governor, Mr Suraphon Svetasreni, congratulated the award winners from Thailand and thanked them for their commitment to raising standards in the health and wellness sector. In his address, Mr Suraphon Svetasreni said, “It is exactly this kind of commitment which continues to raise Thailand’s image and attract thousands of visitors to seek medical care here.”

Krabi Riviera is pleased to promote Thailand’s achievements in the health and wellness sector due to its own commitment to the success of the country’s tourism industry. The company manages an impressive portfolio of luxurious holiday villas in the Ao Nang area, and all villas in the Krabi Riviera portfolio have an excellent specification, with designer kitchens, sumptuous bathrooms and private swimming pools. What’s more, for a reasonable additional cost, holidaymakers staying at one of Krabi Riviera’s villas may wish to improve their health and wellbeing by taking advantage of the company’s own massage programs in the comfort of their holiday villa.Visit for more details and for french language.

With such a wide selection of health and wellness services on offer and a clear commitment amongst industry professionals to maintain high standards in these services, it seems that medical tourism in Thailand is destined to be a great success.
