egtmedia59Thailand has long been acknowledged to be one of the safest countries for women to travel in by themselves without any male presence, whether as touring in a group or as single lady travellers. In terms of local experiences, there is nothing that is barred to women. Right from Thai cooking classes to elephant trekking camps in Chiang Rai, Muay Thai boxing lessons to traversing Bangkok’s Chao Phraya river on a longtail boat, learning traditional massage techniques to mountain climbing in Chiang Mai – women travellers can do all this and more.http://www.lagunaphukettri.com/

Mrs Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, the Honourable Minister for Tourism and Sports, stated that travel was a rewarding experience and she encouraged all women to strike a work-life balance that allowed them to travel.

This August, in honour of the Queen Mother’s birthday, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has organised a new initiative, marking it as a special month to meet the needs of women travellers. Among other things, an unique ‘Lady Golf Challenge’ project is underway that is aimed at more than a 100 lady golfers globally. The project offers special packages for golf tournaments in Thailand, with the chance to play alongside internationally famous (female) golfers.

Moreover, the TAT has created a mobile application, ‘Women’s Journey Thailand’ possible to download from both PlayStore as well as iStore, that allows users to plan their travel schedules and navigate through promotional offers. August also sees a special fast track immigration lane for ladies that has been created at major international airports in Thailand including Bangkok (both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang)  Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai.

Although the focus of the initiative was mainly on Bangkok, Pattaya, Kanchanaburi and Phuket, this is not to say the rest of Thailand is not open for exploring. Be it female visitors or expatriates who work and live here, there are far fewer complaints of women having apprehensions about their safety or about restrictions to their fun and freedom, than pretty much anywhere in the world. The country is one of the most female friendly destinations in Asia and, ahead of the ASEAN launch, is keen to reinforce this image in the global eye and position itself as one of the pioneers in the tourism industry in ensuring that women’s well-being is its prime target.
