Thailand To Penetrate China’s Market, Emphasizing Its Readiness To Host ITU Telecom World 2013

Deputy Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU),  have reiterated, at a press conference, that Thailand is ready and well prepared to host the ITU Telecom World 2013, scheduled to be held at the Impact Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, during 19-22 November 2013.

H.E. Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap, Minister of ICT, paid a visit to the Mobile Asia Expo 2013 ITU at MAE_resizein Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, and presided over the opening ceremony of the “Thailand and ITU Pavilion.”  Together, the Minister of ICT and Mr. Houlin Zhao, Deputy Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), held a press conference to emphasize Thailand’s readiness to host ITU Telecom World 2013, under the theme of “Embracing Change in a Digital World”, which focuses on adapting to changes in a digital world. On the same occasion, Minister of ICT extended an invitation to telecommunication entrepreneurs from every corner of the world to come and take part in the ITU Telecom World 2013 in the interest of the opportunity to strengthen their business opportunities.

Minister of ICT, H.E. Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap, said “It is a privilege for Thailand to host the ITU Telecom World 2013. The fact that Thailand has been selected by the ITU to be the host indicates that the international community has confidence in Thailand and our potential to be a development center for information and communication technology in Southeast Asia”.

Today, Thailand is ready to extend a warm welcome to all as a gateway to ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).  Thailand is committed and dedicated to research and development of ICT. The ICT development is deemed as a major ingredient for national development as well as an avenue leading Thailand to be a major hub for information technology, telecommunication and major conventions and exhibitions in ASEAN. Being the host of ITU Telecom World 2013 indicates Thailand’s strong commitment to the said vision.

The event will be an important business platform to demonstrate Thailand’s progress and high potential in the field of information and communication technology and to promote opportunities for business matching and knowledge sharing at the global level, envisioned by the ministry of ICT, the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau or TCEB.

In addition, the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2013 will re-emphasize Thailand’s status as a preferred destination for mega events in ASEAN, Asia-Pacific and beyond. In 2012, Thailand hosted a total of 7,382 MICE events, 6.84 percent up from 2011, and welcomed 895,224 MICE visitors, 19 percent growth from 2011, reflecting TCEB’s success in attracting mega events to Thailand. This year, TCEB expects Thailand’s MICE industry to grow by 10-15 percent, reaching 940,000 business visitors, generating total revenue of USD 2.93 billion.

In today’s world, the importance of ICT is undeniable. ICT has become a vital part of our daily life. For the private sector, ICT helps promoting business and cutting cost of operation. For the public sector, ICT is an essential tool for distributing development, transmitting knowledge, and connecting public services to the people. These days, the ICT development is put on the top priority in every country. ICT has now become a growing industry with high potential, especially in Southeast Asia, a region regarded as an emerging market with a strong demand for ICT development.

“I believe that not only is ITU TELECOM WORLD a leading forum to exchange and transfer body of knowledge regarding major movements of development in information technology and telecommunication in the international context but it also serves as an important venue for a business sector to come to strengthen its production base as well as to increase its market share in the ASEAN.” said Thai Minister of ICT.

Mr. Houlin Zhao, Deputy Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), said that ITU is pleased that it has chosen Thailand to host the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2013, the biggest international telecommunication event. As Thailand is seen to be ready and has comprehensive infrastructure. Also, Thailand has a strategic location in the region. ITU TELECOM WORLD 2013 in Bangkok is the first ITU TELECOM WORLD event ever held in Southeast Asia. With its main theme of “Embracing Change in a Digital World”, ITU TELECOM WORLD 2013 will focus on how to adapt changes in a digital world. Ideas and knowledge resulted from the conference, seminars and intensive discussions at ITU TELECOM WORLD 2013 will encourage countries from various regions to actively participate in the development of information technology and telecommunication with the view to assurance that every country can have an access to as well as can utilize the information technology and telecommunication to upgrade the quality of life of its people.

“Every year, leaders and prominent persons in field of ICT from all over the world are looking forward to attend ITU Telecom World to discuss and debate on challenging issues about ICT.  ITU Telecom World, therefore, is an important forum for policy formulation and policy initiatives on ICT both in national and international levels. ITU Telecom Word is also served as an innovation exhibition to showcase new technologies and innovations from leading companies around the world. By joining this event, entrepreneurs and organizations will enjoy the benefit to create and broaden their networks and connections.

I have a strong confidence that Thailand will play a significant role to transmit to the Southeast Asian region the idea of Embracing Change in a Digital World. This is an essential part for the region to make necessary preparations for entering digital world as well as the ASEAN Economic Community in the near future, which will be one of the most important transition of the region and the world,” concluded Mr. Houlin Zhao.

In connection with the preparation for ITU Telecom World 2013, the Royal Thai Government has assigned the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology (MICT) to take a leading role for the preparation of the event. In addition, Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) have been the official supporters to ITU Telecom World 2013. ITU Telecom World 2013 is scheduled to be held druing 19-22 November 2013 at the Impact Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok.

Apart from ITU TELECOM WORLD 2013, Thailand also welcome delegates and MICE travelers from around the globe to many major events including Thailand 2013 World Stamp Exhibition, VIV Asia 2013, Renewable Energy Asia/Entech Pollutec Asia/Pumps & Valves Asia 2013, and Propak Asia.
