In a press conference held Tuesday, the Minister of Tourism of Thailand, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, briefed attending media on the measures taken and the rapid recovery of tourism in Thailand after the attack in central Bangkok last month and praised UNWTO and the international tourism community for their strong support. During the conference, UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai, reiterated his confidence in Thailand as a safe destination.
“Thailand is a warm and welcoming country, and I would go there anytime. Attacks targeting tourism are a global challenge, and not a Thai one”, said Mr. Rifai, who went on to call on tourism sector stakeholders to be pro-active and get involved in precautionary security measures in destinations worldwide.
Also present were Mario Hardy, CEO of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and Helen Marano, Vice-President, Government & Industry Affairs Director of World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), who both expressed full confidence in the resilience of Thailand’s tourism sector.
