Thailand’s “Resilient” Australian Visitor Arrivals Hold Strong

Visitor arrival statistics released this week by the Tourism Authority of Thailand for the period January to May 2014 show the recent politically-activated unrest affecting the country has had little impact on the destination’s Australian visitor numbers.

Australian visitor arrivals from January to May actually increased to 353,044 for the period.

This represents a 0.29 per cent increase over the 352.022 figure recorded for the same five-month period last year.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Director Australia, Ms Numfhon Boonyawat, again extended her thanks to the local travel industry for its continued support of the destination.

This, she said, in combination with shrewd marketing tactics and an ongoing feed of positive media activity – both online and mainstream – had delivered on all fronts as evidenced by the steady flow of Australian visitors into the destination.

Ms Boonyawat said the situation having now calmed across the entire country, and particularly in Bangkok, Thailand would again enjoy the benefits of increased Australian visitation as the year progressed.

“Australia may not represent the biggest international market to Thailand but it has always remained one of the most resilient,” she said.
