The New Year Prints Exhibition of R.O.C.,which is held annually to promote modernization of this unique form of folk art, was first launched by the Council for Cultural Affairs (now Ministry of Culture) in 1985.

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts took over the organization of this event from 2006 (the 21st edition) onwards. Every year, this juried exhibition attracts enthusiastic participation from artists nationwide who create New Years prints that combine themes of folk culture with mediums and techniques of modern printmaking in their efforts to modernize this unique form of folk art. The year 2014 is the Chinese Year of the Horse. In Chinese culture, the horse often symbolizes vitality, success and grandeur. To celebrate the upcoming Year of the Horse, we present Thundering Success for the Year of Galloping Horses – the 29th Annual R.O.C. New Year Print Exhibition, which features New Year prints around the theme of the horse.
