The Chelsea Fringe, known as the alternative garden fest, is rampant this month in London. The Athenaeum Hotel, has  joined the spree.

The Mayfair hotel has great green cred – it is home to an iconic Living Wall, designed initially by Patrick Blanc (he who created the Qantas Sydney Chairman’s Lounge version) The Wall covers the Piccadilly corner and climbs to the rooftop – in the process marrying its host to the wonderful Royal Green Park opposite.

On the 20 May Daniel Bell, UK’s garden designer extraordinaire who now tends the Living Wall – is hosting an inspirational evening for those wanting to cherish green spaces in London, and to build their own.  He is passionate about biodiversity in the city, and the Chelsea Fringe, which gives 10% of its proceeds towards further greening the city.

The Athenaeum’s exclusive event will be held in the hotel’s stunning Garden Room, with views onto the Living Wall

Commenting on the event, Daniel Bell said: “This event will aim to inspire people to celebrate the green spaces in our lives. Living green has many different messages and for me it is about cultivating green spaces that live and thrive in our cities and daily lives. I hope that this event will inspire people to take some of my experience home with them, and try to build and grow their own living wall, whether they live in a London apartment with no outside space or in a country home.”

The Living Wall at the Athenaeum Hotel was one of London’s first vertical gardens. One of the most diverse in London, the wall features yucca, lavender, jasmine, fuchsia, rosemary, junipers, mosses and self-seeded wild flowers.

A trail- blazer for vertical gardens, Daniel grew up in southern England he now resides in Sweden and continues to design and build gardens of all sizes throughout London, Stockholm and Skåne.

Tickets are priced at £15 per person with 10% going to support the Chelsea Fringe. Ticket price includes admission to the private talk with Daniel Bell, canapés and an exclusive gin cocktail inspired by the botanicals within the hotel’s Living Wall.
