World-class surfing competitions, premier actions sports, live Australian music concerts, nautical beach club pop-ups, art and photo installations and handcrafted local brews, are just some of the seaside offerings that will hit iconic Manly Beach when the 2017 Australian Open of Surfing (AOS) kicks offfrom February 25 to March 5.
The nine-day, free beach festival will attract world-class surfers – including newly crowned women’s world #1 Tyler Wright – to the birthplace of Australian surfing, in addition to more than 325,000 beach-lovers of all ages from across the world.
Out of the surf, a new partnership with Vans will bring premier skate and BMX competitions to the event, with AOS 2017 hosting the first stop of the 2017 Vans Park Series (VPS) World Championships, the official VPS Oceania Championships for men and women, and the seasonal kick off to the Vans BMX Pro Cup inaugural series.
Live music will also be a key drawcard, with ARIA award-winning electronic outfit Hermitude headlining – and WA electronic producer Elk Road kicking off–the first of two free music concerts on the MTV Stage on March 4 and 5.
On the lifestyle front, Beach Club at Manly by Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel will operate with free entry to the public throughout AOS 2017. Beach Club at Manly will feature Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel’s seaside-chic fitout clad with comfy lounge furniture and blue and white umbrellas, as well as mouthwatering eats and treats including fresh coconut cocktails, fish and chips, fresh seafood selections and a specialty Hawaiian Poke. Expect a jam-packed lineup of entertainment and activities from morning yoga to acoustic sessions, DJs and more.
