More than 150 travel agents from across New Zealand were treated to the very best of Middle Eastern cuisine alongside presentations on the latest developments in Abu Dhabi and from Etihad Airways as the Destination Abu Dhabi Roadshow travelled to three major cities in New Zealand.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in partnership with the emirate’s official carrier, visited Auckland, Wellington and Tauranga to help raise awareness about Abu Dhabi as a holiday destination for New Zealand’s travellers.

The events took place at the QT Wellington on 2 April, at Trinity Wharf in Tauranga on 3 April and at the Sofitel Auckland on 4 April.

Gayle Papworth from Helloworld Travel Wellington said: “The Abu Dhabi tourism evening was very informative about the variety of things to do in Abu Dhabi and I have already been able to sell two-day tours this week to my clients based on the information I learned at the roadshow.”

Tanya Chaffey of Travel Associates Tauranga said: “It was great to get a refresher on Etihad, hearing about their services and cabin types and the current promotions for stopovers.

“It was also fantastic to learn more about what is happening in Abu Dhabi. It is an emirate that I have been fortunate enough to have visited before, but there is so much more to see and do now, such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld and Saadiyat Island.”

Jennifer Gaskin, Australia Office Country Manager for DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The enthusiasm shown by the New Zealand travel agents was really inspiring.  I believe we’ll soon see quite a hike in visitor numbers from this country.”
