The Destination And Industry Specialists

A group of travel doctors have released a short film on you tube to encourage travellers to properly prepare their health before departure.
This film is the first of its kind in the world. It was filmed at 14 locations in South East Queensland, with more than 40 volunteer cast, (and four puppies).  The film runs for 16 minutes and takes the viewer through a series of disease scenarios; malaria, yellow fever, rabies, cholera, typhoid, meningitis, travellers’ diarrhoea.

The film was a project of the Travel Medicine Alliance; a network of specially trained travel doctors, from over 30 clinics across Australia. Dr Deb Mills, a spokesperson for the Alliance said “Although You Tube is replete with videos encouraging travellers to have their shots, most videos are not very engaging. We wanted to do something different, and take a light hearted approach to a serious subject. We hope that this will encourage more travellers to do the right thing and protect themselves and their families from preventable travel illness.”

“We made this film on a shoe string budget – thanks to the many kind helpers giving their time because they believed in the project.”

Many travel consultants are aware of the difficulties of encouraging travellers to take the right medical precautions before travel.

Sean Flint Director of FTM Australia, a long established Industry Marketing and Representation company, said “I have worked in the industry for over 20 years and seen firsthand how difficult it is to get the message to the general traveller, and the sad results when travellers are poorly prepared. This film will be a great tool to help get the message across to the public and give consultants a light hearted look at what is a serious issue for travellers.
Travellers should add medical preparation to their to-do list prior to departure as the loss of experience, fun and holiday time due to illness, is something that can be avoided with a little bit of professional guidance” While Travel Medical help is not the area of expertise of Travel Agents, their assistance with directing clients to a local Travel Medicine Specialist, enhances their professionalism and service to their client. It is part of providing the end to end client solution. If a client has a fantastic holiday, free of illness and issues, repeat business is assured. A number of Travel Agents are   posting links on their websites for the video as well as intranet sites for training of consultants.

The film is called “Travelling Well” and can be found by searching for that title on youtube.
