The Dow Hotel Company, a leading hotel owner/investor and operator, today announced that it has completed a nearly $7 million, 18 months complete makeover of the AAA Four Diamond Lakeway Resort and Spa, located on the shores of Lake Travis just outside of Austin, Texas.

“Virtually every aspect of the resort has been upgraded, from the roof to the flooring and everything in between,” said Murray L. Dow II, DHC founder and president. “We have paid close attention to what our guests want, ranging from introducing our Masterson’s Steakhouse, with its sophisticated, yet southwest appeal, that offers pristine views of Lake Travis and the surrounding Hill Country, UHR 2 Article-Banners-250-x-250-pixelsto the award-winning San Saba Spa.”

Dow noted that the extensive renovation was undertaken in phases to eliminate guest disruption and enhance revenues. “Through careful planning and execution, we were able to systematically re-imagine the resort with little to no impact on guests. Throughout the process, we were able to maintain occupancy and room rate. Our design process paid close attention to what our guests and meeting planners are asking for. This was one of our most complicated renovations due to re-concepting of the outlets and creating a new environment for everyone.”

Public spaces were totally refreshed and all 168 rooms and suites were completely revitalized from carpeting to the furniture. The décor, including the public spaces, reflects a contemporary style that blends traditional Texas elements and natural references found in the colors and visual patterns of the setting at Lake Travis.

Special attention was given to food and beverage and catering with new food and beverage venues and the equipment necessary in kitchens and bars. A new, upscale restaurant, Masterson’s Steakhouse, which overlooks Lake Travis, was introduced from DHC’s stable of proprietary eateries with a personal twist. Named after the famous lawman, Bat Masterson, who spent considerable time in Texas, is a distant relative of DHC founder.

Meeting space was totally updated to take advantages of the resort’s stunning lake and Hill Country views. With 17 meeting rooms, including four large ballrooms, encompassing 24,000 square feet of function space, the resort can accommodate groups ranging from 10 to more than 350 people. The dramatic Vistas Ballroom with breathtaking views of Lake Travis has been augmented with additional pre-function space, making it an ideal venue for weddings and social events.

Kids will enjoy a whole new experience in the brightly colored, retooled, 4,000-square-foot Kid Zone play area. Children have numerous game and activity options in the adult supervised area. Kids and adults now can enjoy virtually year-round swimming in two heated and one unheated pool. Regardless of age, pool guests will delight in the totally refreshed outdoor area that has been upgraded with new surfaces and water features and a swim up pool bar. Technology was not overlooked, with enhanced, complimentary, high speed, wireless Internet access and large HDTV TVs.

“This is the seventh major renovation we have completed in the past 24 months, all of which have been on time and budget,” Dow said. “We have extensive experience in overseeing upgrades and repositioning of properties. It requires expertise in managing all aspects of the process, beginning with creating the property’s personality through design and seamless oversight of construction/installation. We believe that there will be an extensive number of upgrades to hotels over the next three years as they change ownership and seek enhanced profitability.”
