The Everleigh is throwing a 1964 Sands Hotel, Vegas inspired birthday party and everyone’s invited.

It’s been a big year for the team at The Everleigh with the launch of their first book ‘A Spot at the Bar – the art of good drinking in three hundred recipes’, followed by the bar’s glamorous new refurb. As their sixth birthday approaches we are excited to celebrate the
stalwart of Australia’s exciting cocktail scene.

The Everleigh is part of a growing list of ventures owned and created by Michael Madrusan including Heartbreaker, Connie’s Pizza, The Everleigh Bottling Co. and Navy Strength Ice. The collection of venues, products and services are now known as the Made in the Shade Group, established in 2016 to encompass the entire stable.

Made In The Shade’s most recent project of course, was the unveiling of The Everleigh redesign in July this year. The updated look features an elongated, central bar that accommodates bar stools all around, a standing area to allow for more mingling among
guests, not forgetting the addition of a gorgeous new private room, The Starling Room, catering for small groups of up to 15. As with everything Made In The Shade, the refurb was a deeply personal project for owner, Michael Madrusan and wife Zara who drew on the
skills and support of family to bring the new design together.

The all new glamorous Everleigh is the perfect backdrop for Michael’s newly introduced one-of-a-kind collection of vintage spirits. His personal list offers drinkers a taste of history, including gins from the 1950s, Smirnoff from the 1960s, scotch from the 1930s and an
extremely rare rye whiskey from 1936. The list also includes a range of rums spanning from 1950s to 1980s.

Alongside the goings on at The Everleigh was the launch of Made In The Shade’s New York style pizza offering, Connie’s Pizza. Located inside Heartbreaker bar (that is soon to celebrate its second birthday), Connie’s is named after Michael’s Italian grandmother, his
Nonnina and inspired by both his Italian upbringing and his time spent in New York working at Milk & Honey, where he enjoyed many a late-night slice. Not so coincidentally, the Connie’s mantra is ‘late night, ate right.’

There has been a steady increase in awareness of Navy Strength Ice, a unique state of the art ice production using a specialised filtration system, to create 140kg blocks of crystal clear ice that is hand crafted to suit. Due to the increased industry and retail demand Michael
and Zara made the decision to move production to a new state of the art facility in Collingwood earlier this year. “More and more venues are starting to recognise the benefit of pure, crystal clear ice and we are really happy to now have the facilities to be able to meet the demand. Finally, ice is now considered an integral ingredient in any drink. To use a lesser quality product would only cheapen or dishonour the spirits or drink”. says Michael. Business is also growing for the Everleigh Bottling Co. which has also been moved from The
Everleigh Bar to a larger facility in Collingwood. Since successful partnerships with Palace Cinemas and David Jones helped extend the company’s reach to Sydney in 2016, recently formed partnerships include 5-star hotels such as Shangri-La (Sydney), Pier One (Sydney),
Sofitel on Collins St (Melbourne) & Mornington Peninsula’s Jackelope (Melbourne). The launch of the Everleigh Bottling Co. online store in 2017 also means that the products are easily accessible for fans and customers nationwide to purchase as gifts (www.everleighbottling.com).

The last twelve months also saw Michael and Zara publish their first book, ‘A Spot at the Bar – the art of good drinking in three hundred recipes’. A bible for lovers of good drinking and those with a penchant for the good life, the book is a representation of everything Made In
The Shade embodies in print. A Spot at the Bar has received a tremendous response from booze enthusiasts around the world, as well as significant industry acclaim, including a top 4 Tales of the Cocktail nomination this year. Demand in Europe also saw the book printed in
Italian just last month!

The Everleigh’s annual birthday celebration is a chance to raise a toast to all the hard work. This month, the team will be ringing in their sixth year in true Everleigh style on Sunday 24th of September with a 1960’s Vegas themed birthday party. Think of the golden years of
Sinatra and exclusive late night parties hosted by the city’s high rollers. It was a time of illegal dealings and honour among thieves but above all, it was a time of high glamour and show stopping performances. The epicentre for this golden era of music and liquor was the
Sands Hotel in Vegas. With a night of theatrical celebrations, live performances, great drinks and more, The Everleigh is putting on one hell of a show and everyone is invited.
