The Henry Jones Art Hotel Appoints In-House Historian

July 9, 2014 Hotel News No Comments Email Email

The Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart has appointed a dedicated History Liaison to encourage guests to uncover more about the historic hotel and Hobart.

Set right on Hobart’s waterfront in a row of converted sandstone warehouses dating back to 1823, The Henry Jones Art Hotel is an iconic and historic building. From warehouses in the 1830s to the IXL jam factory in 1891, the hotel has undergone drastic changes during its lifetime and is entrenched in Hobart’s history.

The role of History Liaison has been filled by Emma Devlin, who combines a keen passion for history with extensive customer relations experience. As the History Liaison, Emma is responsible for ensuring guests are connected to the story of The Henry Jones Art Hotel and its significant place in Hobart’s history.

Complimentary guided tours of the hotel and Hobart will be available for guests, with visitors able to access these tours at a cost of $15.00 per person. Emma also provides guests with a backgrounder on all convicts arriving in Tasmania that share the same surname as them. Emma says that while guests may not always be related to the convicts, the convict’s stories certainly make for interesting reading material.

Discussing her new role, Emma says, “It’s a thrill to be able to help guests and visitors learn more about the history of The Henry Jones Art Hotel. The hotel and the city of Hobart are such culturally and historically rich destinations, and I look forward to sharing more about its stories and characters that make it so unique.”

Appointments with the History Liaison and tour bookings can be organized directly through the hotel by calling 03 6210 7700.
