The High Line Hotel and Smorgasburg Debut 180 Tenth By Smorgasburg

The renowned Smorgasburg open-air food market, created by Jonathan Butler and Eric Demby, has partnered with The High Line Hotel to open 180 Tenth by Smorgasburg, a seasonal outdoor restaurant in the hotel’s front courtyard and garden [180 10th Avenue at 20th Street, 212.933.9735, www.180tenth.com].

With 180 Tenth by Smorgasburg, Butler, Demby, and executive chef Aaron Taber celebrate the best of summer, offering menus which showcase the region’s best in-season ingredients along with an extensive list of natural wines. As with previous seasonal restaurants at The High Line Hotel (Alta Linea and Champagne Charlie’s), 180 Tenth by Smorgasburg will include an inventive list of classic and frozen cocktails including Margaritas, the ever-popular Frozen Negroni, and the new Italian Flash.

Featuring a selection of oysters and ‘Snacks,’ food menus open with shareable small plates including olives with fennel marmalade; flatbread with herb jam; burrata, tomato, and herb salad; swiss-chard arancini; and hand-cut fries with aioli. Larger vegetable-forward ‘Plates’ include Kale & Grains with preserved lemon, sunflower seeds, and radish; Gem Lettuce Salad with Goddess dressing, sprouted grains, and fried onion; Roasted Carrots with Almonds, herbs, raisins, and Piave cheese; Asparagus with Chimichurri, hard-boiled egg, and breadcrumbs; Crispy Ramp Polenta with Beans, greens, and sunny egg; a custom-blend Beef Burger with onion jam, cheddar cheese, pickles w/ fries; Veggie Burger with mushrooms, quinoa, walnuts w/ fries; and Black Bass with Clams, ramp butter, mustard greens. A simple dessert menu will showcase Panna Cotta with roasted fruit, and Bay-leaf and chocolate ice cream.

The beverage program at 180 10th by Smorgasburg will be anchored by light and breezy summer cocktails, natural wines, and craft beers. Having curated a rotating collection of beer & wine as the general manager for Berg’n the last three years, veteran beverage professional Jen Watson lends her expertise to offer American craft beer, served alongside top natural wines from around the world. The cocktail menu will include classic cocktails together with frozen concoctions and the newHigh Line Bling (small pour Veuve Clicquot, oyster shooter), and Bling Fo Fo (bottle of Veuve Clicquot, dozen oysters).

In its fourth season of operation, the garden restaurant at The High Line Hotel has become one of the most sought-after summer dining experiences in West Chelsea. This season, the new 90-seat 180 Tenth by Smorgasburg welcomes guests to al fresco dining under string lights, flickering vintage gas lamps, canvas umbrellas or the foliage of the tree-lined garden. Whether socializing at a communal bar table or sitting in a cozy booth or banquette, diners will be invited to celebrate the New York summer in one of the city’s most unique and historic spaces.

180 Tenth by Smorgasburg will be open during the warm weather months, seven days a week for dinner (Sunday through Thursday from 5pm-10pm (last seating at 9pm), and Friday and Saturday from 5pm-11pm (last seating at 10pm), weather permitting. Lunch and brunch service will begin in the coming weeks.
