Held from Saturday, 23 July until Friday, 29 July 2016, the International Champions Cup brings Europe’s best soccer teams to Melbourne.

This year, the city will host England’s Tottenham Hotspur, Italy’s Juventus Football Club and Spain’s Athletico de Madrid, with all three hotly anticipated games set to be played at Melbourne’s MCG. Making things even more interesting for Melbourne fans will be the inclusion of Melbourne Victory’s game against Juventus.

David Perry, Hotel CEO, commented that: “2015 saw no less than 221,000 fans flock to the MCG from all over the region for the week of the first International Champions Cup with indications that the dates of the 2016 event are amongst the most searched for hotel dates on the internet for Melbourne accommodation ever.”

Perry continued, “Melbourne has clearly established itself as one of the world’s finest sporting capitals and we are indebted to all state governments over the last twenty years for such bipartisan support in attracting these iconic events to Victoria with the most positive impact on the wider economy and the state.  Melbourne is clearly the envy of many cities around the world and this year’s International Champions Cup is bound to enhance the city’s reputation even more.”

The Hotel Windsor is Australia’s most cherished grand hotel, and the hotel choice for many visiting the city for sporting events, due to its prime position and proximity to the MCG and Rod Laver Arena. The hotel is advising soccer fans to book as early as possible to secure accommodation for this year’s historic championship.

Melbourne already hosts the Australian Grand Prix, the Spring Racing Carnival, the Melbourne Cup, the Australian Open Tennis Championships, the AFL Grand Final and cricket’s Boxing Day Test and is complemented with iconic events in the world of art, the theatre and international conventions. Melbourne’s MCG has secured the International Champions Cup until at least 2018.
