The Adelaide Festival Centre has secured an international leg of the world’s most influential book event as part of the 2018 OzAsia Festival.
The Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) will see more than 50 prominent writers and thinkers visit the capital of South Australia, including famous Indian author Shobhaa De and renowned travel writer William Dalrymple, who founded the event.
The Adelaide offshoot of the world’s largest free celebration of literature will take place from Friday 9 November to Sunday 11 November, the final weekend of OzAsia, which begins on 25 October.
Described by Dalrymple as a “super-university pitching its tents”, the JLF will also visit New York, Houston and Boulder in the United States, and London in the United Kingdom.
Adelaide Festival Centre CEO Douglas Gauiter said the event is a massive coup for the city.
“The completely free JLF program will give audiences the opportunity to surround themselves with some of the best literary minds from around the world,” Gauiter said.
The full JLF Adelaide program will be released in September.
The full OzAsia Festival programwas released this week and includes the iconic acrobatic masterpiece Sutra and a brand new production from acclaimed playwright Nassim Soleimanpour.
There will be more than 400 activities, events and film screenings at the twelfth edition of the annual festival, which is timed to coincide with the Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival.
Festival director Joseph Mitchell said OzAsia continues to lead the way as Australia’s major arts festival engaging with Asia.
“This year’s program shows the breadth of boundary pushing contemporary arts from across Asia and explores Australia-Asia collaboration,” Mitchell said
OzAsia will also host the Borak Art Series, the first time the major Southeast Asian arts conference will take place outside of Malaysia.
