The King of Conferences

egtmedia59Managing a business like the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre is not a part time, easy paced, stress free job; but it is one that CEO Peter King clearly thrives on.

Speaking at the AIME Press Conference on day one he referred to himself as “the token bloke on the panel”; but speaking with EGlobal yesterday he was far from a token anything. More-fun-in-the-Philippines_250X250px

The MCEC is a huge business, with an economic impact on the city of Melbourne and (more widely) the state of Victoria in excess of $230 Million.  It is a business driven by innovation, run by a team with a passion for creativity and innovative ideas, a business at the forefront of modern technology and a business that is not afraid to embrace change and take on new challenges.  In Peter’s words; “it is all about teamwork, and everyone is given the opportunity to make a difference”!

The new technology programme – Imagine that was launched recently allows clients to create a virtual set-up of their conference, in 3D, and then experiment with features, settings and styles so that they get it right before they start.  The kitchen at the MCEC is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, it is 97 Metres long, and it dishes out quality fresh food, using fresh local produce from local producers.

The MCEC has just gone through one of the busiest periods in its history, and will in a period of just 12 months, have hosted the five largest medical conferences in the world, a feat that no other city and no other convention centre can ever hope to match.

But there is no resting on any laurels, quoting Peter yesterday; “its all about keeping ahead of the game” he said, “ we need to ensure that the MCEC retains its position as one of the worlds leading event and conference centres”! “Its all about going from good to great!”
