The Little Big Project

pictureThe Authority of Tourism of Thailand has launched ‘The Little Big Project’ to promote ‘Voluntourism’ in Thailand. The program aims to invite international and Thai tourists on a volunteer contest mission anywhere in Thailand.

During the mission, participants will share the volunteer experiences stories, photos and video on blogs and social media like Facebook, YouTube and Instagram to inspire tourists all over the world to participate in Voluntourism in Thailand. The winning team will be awarded with USD 5,000 grant which will be donated to the community in which the team volunteers for natural conservation activities.

Koh Talu, Baang Saphan, Prajuab Kirikant province is selected as one of the volunteer mission destinations. The project has started since July 3, 2013 and will be completed on July 16, 2013. A team of volunteer which includes Mr Thomas William Barrett (Thailand representative) and Ms. Thuy Thi Nguyen (Vietnam) is now on a mission to

  1. Help reserve sea turtle by collecting their eggs for incubating and returning them to nature safely at Koh Talu
  2. Learn how to operate ‘Crab Bank’ from Baan Nong Samed fishery community for sustainable fishery management
  3. Learn coral reef plantation with artificial root technique
  4. Lead ‘Beach Detector’ educational activity for a group of children in local community
  5. Plant mangrove forest and learn about the local’s way of life in Baang Saphan community to promote sustainability concept

We would donate the USD 5,000 grant to  Talay Siam Foundation for organizing marine camp for children in Baang Saphan community and surrounded area in order to promote understanding of eco-tourism, natural resource reservation and sustainable coexistence between community and nature.
