The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey today announced its new “Gastro Hunt Tour,” a five-day social media influencer initiative to highlight the country’s rich history, culture and culinary scene.

From August 4 to August 10, Influencers from across the globe will travel to Turkish cities Istanbul, Gaziantep and Alacati/Cesme (Izmir) as they visit the country’s top chefs and restaurants.

The GastroHunt Tour is part of a new global tourism marketing campaign with a global strategy that aligns with the country’s increasing position as global tourism leader. More than 34.9-million tourists visited Turkey in the past year compared to 15.2 million 10 years ago, placing it behind only France, the USA, China, Spain and Italy as a must-visit destinations among travelers.

Few countries have as wide a variety of tourism attractions as Turkey, including, and – perhaps most importantly – its figurative and physical position as a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures, and its centuries-old tradition of hospitality that embraces visitors from all corners of the globe.

The Instagrammers participating in the GastroHunt Tour, Daniel Krieger from New York (@danielkrieger), Ana Sampaio Barros (@anasbarros) and Guilherme Da Rosa (@gui_) from Vienna, and Ciler Gecici (@audiosoup) and Mehmet Kirali (@civilking) from Turkey, specialize in showcasing food, landscapes and architecture, and have about two and half million followers between them.

The GastroHunt Tour will be hosted by famous Turkish chef Arda Turkmen (@ardaturkmen), who has selected some of his favorite restaurants and local tastes to promote Turkish cuisine. He writes and presents TV program ‘Arda’s Kitchen,’ which has aired on weekends weekend for the past 4 years. Arda also owns a restaurant in Karaköy, Istanbul.

To illustrate what continues to keep Turkey as one of the most sought after tourist destinations, participants will also see many of the country’s iconic architectural and historical landmarks, including the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. They will also tour the Bebek seaside, Bosphorous and Grand Bazar and Zeugma Museum, and sip on the beloved Turkish coffee atop the Galata Tower while overlooking the city of Istanbul.

The GastroHunt experience was designed by Directorate of Promotions, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey and their digital marketing and social media management agency PANGEA.

“With all that Turkey has to offer, from cultural sites that are on UNESCO’s World Heritage list to beloved foods that date back thousands of years, we designed this trip to showcase its unique appeal through the eyes of these Instagram influencers, “said Irfan Onal, Director General, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey. “The itinerary we laid out for the group is full of tasty treats and fun places to see. We anticipate their followers will enjoy this experience and wish to visit Turkey as a result.”
