January 12, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

FlightStats, part of FlightGlobal, has compiled a list of what it says are the most punctual international carriers. The list was released at the same time as a list by OAG, although the findings were by no means the same.

FlightStats, which provides real-time global flight data to companies and travellers, has announced the winners of its eighth Annual Airline On-Time Performance Service Awards for 2016.

For the rival OAG compilation, see OAG says it knows world’s most punctual airlines

The FlightStats awards recognise the “Best of the Best” Airlines that demonstrate consistently high performance and deliver on their promise to get passengers to their destinations in a timely manner.

The company also provides data by the month. According to its data, the least punctual international airline during the month of December 2016 was the Israeli airline El Al, followed by Air Canada, Asiana Airlines and Jet Airways (India).http://eventscrm.ttgasia.com/ttg2017/itcmchina/buyer/itcma_buyer.asp?code=Global%20Travel

For an airline to be considered within an awards category certain requirements must be met. These requirements include the total annual scheduled passenger flights, the geographical nature of their route network and the degree to which FlightStats is able to acquire flight status data. The flight status coverage requirement is 90%, meaning that FlightStats has scheduled and actual gate arrival times on at least 90% of the scheduled flights for most categories.

For the Major International Airline category, the coverage threshold was set at 85%. The coverage threshold used for Latin America was 80% while coverage for the Middle East & Africa was 85%.
