Summer is the perfect time for a barbecue, and there’s nowhere better in town to light up the grill than at The Optimist. The Wan Chai restaurant has just introduced new dishes to their menu of Spanish specialties, highlighting the rich, smoky flavours from their traditional asador charcoal grill. Relax with friends and family over the crackle of the grill, while indulging in meat, seafood and vegetable dishes barbecued to perfection.

Among the sizzling new starters are Seared Hokkaido Scallops (HKD190), served with a light and zesty lemon butter and leek sauce, and a crispy Andalusian Cadon en adobo (HKD170) –  fried and breaded swordfish accompanied with a tangy lime mayonnaise.

Known for serving up some of the best steak in Hong Kong, The Optimist have added a succulent and tender Porterhouse (HKD890) to the menu. Charcoal grilled to seal in the juicy flavour, the 1kg cut of USDA prime steak is the perfect option for sharing with friends. Just as flavourful is the generously portioned Iberian pork chop (HKD310), served with rustic, charred potatoes. Sweet and succulentBraised short ribs (HKD460) have a Rioja wine glaze for added depth.

Decadent sides to drool over include the new BBQ Cauliflower (HKD68), sautéed in brown butter and served with pickled onions andalioli, and Roasted Pumpkin & Goats Cheese (HKD68) charcoal-roasted and plated up with lemon cream and pumpkin seeds.

End your meal on a high with La Piña (HKD90), a fragrant, charcoal-grilled pineapple dessert bursting with flavours and textures like a makrut lime caramel, crushed pistachios and a generous scoop of coconut ice cream.

Another exciting addition at The Optimist this summer are two brand new Tasting Menus. Perfect for sharing, The Classic (HKD520 per person) is a four-course fiesta which includes three starters, two sharing plates and a hearty selection of main courses. Diehard carnivores will love The Northern Grill (HKD620 per person), which includes Charcoal Grilled Chorizo Criollo, succulent Charcoal Grilled Iberian Pork Skewer, and melt-in-the-mouth Australian Angus Beef Tomahawk. Both options include a Chef’s selection of The Optimist’s much-loved desserts.
