After celebrating its first 100 years, the landmark hotel on Paris’ Avenue Montaigne is getting ready for the next century.

In the course of the last two years, Dorchester Collection, has had the opportunity to purchase three adjoining buildings to the Plaza Athénée. These consist in a town house where Harry Winston have their store on avenue Montaigne, and another town house on the rue Clément Marot. The edifice on 21 avenue Montaigne, where the Relais Plaza is currently located, has also been bought.

The integration of these added structures will begin from 1st October 2013. In spite of every effort to maintain the hotel’s activity during this period, François Delahaye, COO to Dorchester Collection and also General Manager of the Plaza Athénée, has resolved to closing the hotel for a few months to preserve his guests’ comfort. In the spring of 2014, an enlarged Plaza Athénée, will reopen, thus offering new suites and increased reception facilities.

The expansion of this Paris landmark will be undertaken under the responsibility of French architect Jean-Jacques Ory. The interior fitting and decoration will be entrusted to three talented personalities: the new suites will be handed to Marie-José Pommereau, who had already conceived the décor of the existing ones. The Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée restaurant as well as the Bar will be redesigned by the Jouin-Manku agency, the authors of the current setting. Lastly, the new reception rooms, as well as other public areas and restaurants will be the creation of Bruno Moinard.

The works will be carried out by Vinci Construction enterprises.

In the spring of 2014, the Plaza Athénée’s regular visitors will rediscover the warm and refined surroundings of the apartments as well as the timeless cuisine of Alain Ducasse. Certain things will have changed but the hotel’s soul will remain, one of passion, know-how, excellence and elegance.

During the works, the Plaza Athénée guests will enjoy a personalized welcome at Le Meurice, also member of Dorchester Collection.

As part of this refurbishment, the Plaza Athénée has entrusted Artucrial Briest Poulain F. Tajan with the administration of the auction sale of the hotel’s many pieces.

The public viewing will last 3 days at the Plaza Athénée, with dates from 4th to 6th October inclusive and will be followed by three sessions conducted by François Tajan and Stéphane Aubert at Artcurial’s in their Hôtel Marcel Dassault on 8th October 2013.

Of particular interest for collectors and amateurs, Artcurial Briest Poulain F. Tajan will be auctioning the design furniture of the famous bar created by Patrick Jouin in 2001, one of Paris’ trendiest spots, but also part of the Art Déco style furniture of the Relais Plaza brasserie, a lot consisting of some of Jean- Michel Folon’s sculptures, as well as decorating objects from the Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée restaurant.
