The Rees Hotel Queenstown has announced that they have installed an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger for two of their carspots within the hotel carpark as electric cars are now available and becoming increasingly popular around New Zealand.
This is the first such charger available in Queenstown (public or private) and The Rees hopes that this will set an example for the industry which will lead to further such chargers being made available. The chargers are complimentary for The Rees Queenstown guests.
The secondary aim is to promote the wider use of electric vehicles in and around the Southern lakes District as a better alternative to petrol-run cars as part of The Rees’ ongoing commitment to preserving and protecting the local environment and engagement with the community. Mark Rose, General Manager of The Rees Hotel Queenstown, commented, “The Rees prides itself on being environmentally friendly. With the promotion and availability of an EV charger within the area, we hope to encourage individuals to buy an electronic car, which in turn means less petrol and less pollution.”
The charger that is being installed at The Rees Hotel is an electric-only charger, commonly known as an EV Charger. The Rees already provides standard socket outlets that can be used free of charge for users of petrol Hybrid EVs. However, this newest installment allows any vehicle that is ‘Electric Only’ to charge, for example cars such as the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi iMieV.
To ensure that the charger is used to its full capacity, Mr Rose has stated, “With the help of our 24 staff here at The Rees Queenstown, we will be able to switch over the EV Charger during the night, to ensure we are able to maximise the number of cars able to re-charge with the EV charger during each night”.
