Guests will be delighted by host Nick Picone, Villa Maria’s Group Chief Winemaker. Nick has been named NZ “Winemaker of the Year” on multiple occasions. He was also the first New Zealander to receive the prestigious title of Wine Society Australasian Young Winemaker of the Year in 2012.

Patrons can also look forward to savouring fresh, seasonal produce in dishes by True South Dining Room’s head chef Ben Batterbury. Ben’s culinary expertise has earned him several awards including most recently, HM Magazine’s Award for Hotel Chef of the year (Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific).

From humble beginnings in 1961, Villa Maria Estate has rapidly grown into one of New Zealand’s best known wineries, with four vineyards across New Zealand. Established in 1961 by George Fistonich, it is family owned and makes wine distinctive of the key wine growing regions Marlborough, Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and Auckland and has won many accolades including being named The New Zealand Wine Company of the Year 15 times, one of the World’s 50 Great Wine Producers by Wine Spectator Magazine and theMost Trusted Brand for New Zealand Wine by Reader’s Digest. George was also knighted for his services to the wine industry by the New Zealand government.

True South Dining Room offers a delicious selection of fresh, clean on the palate and flavourful fare. It sources high quality suppliers south of Christchurch assuring freshness and quality control, reducing food miles through its local sourcing and supporting sustainable practices. Both restaurant and head chef have won annual awards and international recognition for its culinary creations and splendidly curated wine list.
