The Shilla Seoul is delighted to announce La Yeon has been included in the Michelin Guide Seoul 2018. This prestigious honour reflects The Shilla’s ongoing commitment to providing culinary excellence and exceptional dining experiences.

In the coveted list, La Yeon, The Shilla Seoul’s flagship Korean fine-dining restaurant, was awarded three Michelin stars. Since 2013, La Yeon has offered traditional Korean flavours and modern reinterpretations of time-honoured recipes. The award-winning restaurant distinguishes itself by using only authentic seasonal ingredients sourced from around Korea, as well as 100 percent Korean-made products.

La Yeon has fine-tuned its techniques to honour long-held culinary customs. To ensure the authenticity and purity of the dishes, the restaurant’s culinary team continuously develops preserving and processing techniques. These innovations include maintaining a meat aging facility, creating a special aging storage facility exclusively for kimchi with optimal temperature and humidity settings, and designing separate storage units for sauces and pastes that are the foundation of Korean cuisine. Committed to culinary traditions, Executive Chef Kim Sung Il and his team regularly revive recipes from a 500-year-old cookbook, Sooeunjapbang, which dates back to ancient Korea, as well as traditional Korean cookbooks passed down through the generations.

“It is an honour to once again be listed in this year’s Michelin Restaurant Guide”, says Executive Chef Kim Sung Il. “We are thrilled to be recognised; the achievement belongs to everyone on our team and reflects their shared commitment to providing our guests with an exceptional dining experience. The recognition motivates us to continue our vision of showcasing the beauty of traditional Korean cuisine.”

La Yeon has also been included in the list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for the last three consecutive years.

In addition to La Yeon, The Shilla Seoul’s French restaurant, Continental, is renowned for its impeccable French cuisine. Situated on the hotel’s top floor with panoramic views of Seoul’s skyline, Continental delivers elegant French flavours paired with a selection of over 500 world-class wines.

The Shilla Seoul’s Palsun and Ariake restaurants are also popular dining destinations in Seoul. Palsun, ranked amongst the finest Chinese restaurants in Korea, is renowned for serving an exquisite range of dishes ranging from Beijing to Guangdong classics. Designed as a gallery, the restaurant is dotted with masterpieces by acclaimed Korean artists such as painter Seo Seok and ceramist Park Yeong-suk. For guests seeking a more intimate setting, the private rooms provide a quiet retreat.

A true delight for the senses, Japanese restaurant Ariake blends Korean sensibility with Edomae traditions and features striking presentations by celebrated Japanese food stylist Fukada Noriko. Ariake, meaning to start a day full of hope like the rising sun at dawn, delivers a memorable experience in the art of Japanese cuisine.

The Shilla Seoul maintains a reputation for world-class hospitality services with a signature Korean touch. A leader in the Korean hospitality industry, The Shilla reinforces Seoul as a global destination with its premium facilities and exceptional culinary options.
