Ariyana Convention Centre Danang, managed by the Furama Resort Danang, Vietnam, has welcomed delegates from 183 member countries to attend the very first sessions within the framework of The Sixth Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly and Associated Meetings, taking place from June 23rd  – 29th 2018.

The GEF Assembly and Associated Meetings were preceded by The Constituency Meeting and Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) Meeting on June 23rd.  The 54th GEF Council Meeting will take place on June 24th – 26th  and the 24th Least Developed Countries Fund/Special Climate Change Fund Council Meeting and a Civil Society Forum on June 26th. The opening plenary sessions on June 27th  will cover the state of the global environment, the ambition needed to help transform the systems that support how people live, eat, move; how we produce and consume; and how the implementation of GEF-7 can contribute to the necessary systems change. The visit to GEF projects surrounding Da Nang will take place on June 29th.

The GEF Assembly, set up to help tackle our planet’s most pressing environmental problems, is held every four years. It brings together 1,500 delegates including environment ministers and other senior officials from all its 183 member countries, along with heads of UN agencies, regional development backs, civil society organizations and business leaders to share ideas, solutions and action needed to protect the global environment. Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is expected to attend and deliver speech at the opening ceremony of The 6th GEF Assembly June 26th. Vietnam was one of the earliest members of the GEF (joining on December 5th, 1994). By attending the 6th GEF Assembly, Vietnam delivers the message and promote to the international community with strong determination, effort and commitment of Vietnam on sustainable development, especially in the implementation of Vietnam’s international commitments on the environment. In addition, this is also an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen, foster cooperation, seek opportunities to receive financial support, technology, introduce and promote tourism, culture, landscapes and Vietnamese people.

According to Mr. Matthias Wiesmann, General Manager of Furama Resort Danang – the management company of Ariyana Convention Centre: “With the experience of successfully hosting the APEC 2017 Summit, The 6th  GEF Assembly and Associated Meetings have been properly prepared by the Ariyana Convention Centre Management Board for several months. In order to achieve the common goal of protecting the environment – the future of the planet and human health, the Ariyana Convention Centre staff has implemented green activities: Using low carbon and locally sourced meals rather than imported materials; Providing water stations instead of distributing bottled water; Minimising the enery and carbon footprint emission. “
