Traveling with kids can be challenging, so it’s not surprising that a lot of parents have trouble finding the perfect destination for kids of all ages. Although it may not be top of mind, the ideal place could in fact be Memphis, Tennessee.

Recently named on the prestigious Frommer’s list as one of the Best Places to Go in 2019, Memphis is an increasingly popular destination for holiday goers and is perfect for families – offering plenty for kids and adults alike.

Best known for its musical legacy and vibrant culinary scene, Memphis offers so much more and is a must in 2019, with the city celebrating its bicentennial year during its month long Memphis in May celebration – a family-friendly party not to miss!

To help plan your next trip, Memphis Tourism has shared some of the top activities to do with kids of all ages beyond the traditional tourist highlights:

Small kids –

Explore the Memphis Zoo, which is one of the country’s best animal kingdoms. Not only is the zoo easy to navigate, it also includes a Yellowstone ecosystem, polar bears and wolves from the great Northwest, and Pandas from China – providing the perfect day out for the whole family!

The Peabody Hotel is another unmissable experience when travelling with small children. Head to the swanky home of the Peabody Ducks, where everyday at 11am they are led by a Duckmaster down a red carpet to a marble fountain, all the the tune of John Phillip Sousa’s King Cotton March. The ceremony is reversed at 5pm, when the ducks leave the fountain to head to bed, marching back down the red carpet to ride the elevator before retiring in their rooftop palace.

Primary school kids –

The Children’s Museum of Memphis offers hands-on, interactive exhibits that are so much fun that your kids won’t even realise it’s educational. Perfect for those aged up to 10 years, kids can ride the newly restored 1909 Memphis Grand Carousel, sit in the airplane cockpit, climb through a skyscraper, ride a zip line and even play in the water park.

Shelby Farm offers huge playgrounds and park spaces that are perfect for a picnic, or simply enjoying warm days in the sun. Inside the park you’ll also find the Woodland Discovery Playground and Water Play Sprayground, which are sure to provide kids with hours of fun.

Teens –

Go Ape, is a unique outdoor experience that allows the true adventurer to opportunity to spend 2 – 3 hours exploring the forest canopy through a suspended obstacle and zip line course with incredible views.

Teens can also jump into some serious fun at Sky Zone Trampoline Park which is a giant warehouse full of trampolines. Filled with everything from foam pits, basketball and dodgeball courts, it’s sure to keep busy teens occupied for hours.
