Winter has officially arrived and what better place to warm away your winter blues than at Fairhaven’s iconic-Pole House– located on the Great Ocean Road.
Reported around the globe in magazines and tourism campaigns – as one of the best places to stay on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road – this architecturally-inspired property – sitting high on the hills –overlooking the coastline – is releasing a Winter Sunday and Monday Special. This includes a reduced rate for Sunday and Monday night stays throughout Winter – where you can save more than 10% when you book before August 31, 2016.
Like no other house along the coast – staying in The Pole House gives you the sensation that you are literally perched on the edge of the World – with sea views spreading out for thousands of kilometres in front of you- it gives you an opportunity for complete seclusion – whilst still being a short drive away from many key tourist attractions.
So there has never been a better reason to head down to the Great Ocean Road and spend time away at the world famous stretch of Victorian coastline at the Pole House – and warm up in front of a romantic fire place, walk along secluded majestic beaches and immerse yourself in spectacular sundowns and sunsets whilst listening to the sound of crashing waves – it truly is the ultimate Winter escape!
Since its construction in 1978, The Pole House in Fairhaven has been a tourist landmark – residing upon a 15 metre concrete pedestal off the cliff-face, 40 metres above Fairhaven Beach, constantly keeping watch over the Southern Ocean.
Being so exposed to the elements – The Pole House has been creatively designed – with black floors to avoid sun glare, double glazed glass, a free-standing fire place as to not encroach on the views – as well as special extras like taps with hidden lights that change colour depending on the temperature of the water.
But the main feature of the house is, and will always be, how the sea and the sky are entangled in the room – the mood set by these ever-changing elements.
Located near the lighthouse at Airey’s Inlet – for returning visitors, the “Who Will Be the First to Spot the Pole House” game was a popular car ride pastime, and for first-timers – a great photo opportunity – unique in its architecture as well as its height – it is most likely the most photographed house along the winding coastline.
In November 2012 the iconic Pole House was updated by the current owner – with a view to revive and refresh the architecture and design after five years of detailed planning – with the skill of Franco Fiorentini from F2 Architecture it was reopened in December 2013 as a brand new statue on an already famous pedestal.
The renovation modernised the 35 year old house – the design concept capitalising on the breath-taking views with floor to ceiling retractable glass doors – to transform the cosy open plan holiday house into a magnificent outdoor lookout – or enjoy the atmosphere from the wrap around balcony – it’s hard to imagine a better way to enjoy a romantic winter getaway!
A place of serenity and peace, The Pole House is an accommodation destination like no other.
