Rickshaw bottle shotRickshaw, the second release from The Urban Project has hit the shelves – the Hong Kong produced wine is being sold exclusively at The Flying Winemaker located conveniently on Wyndham Street and on the online store* for only HK$190.

The Urban Project features wine Made in Hong Kong For Hong Kong with only 1,000 wines available per release.  Wines from the series are named after iconic Hong Kong transport institutions with the first release being the Sampan, the fishing boats that decorate Victoria Harbour. Eddie McDougall, the award-winning winemaker, wine judge, columnist and TV personality behind The Flying Winemaker show, has lovingly put together this range that is sourced abroad and produced in an urban winery here in Hong Kong. Sampan launched this past February and is currently on offer at top Hong Kong restaurants including Chachawan Isaan Thai and Bar, Blue Butcher andClassified.

Eddie continues to push the boundaries of traditional wine making with Rickshaw being a blend of barrel agedSauvignon Blanc (65%) and unoaked Chardonnay (35%) with grapes sourced from Washington State, USA then fermented, aged and bottled in Hong Kong. Characteristics of tropical fruits, ripe melons and cashews layer each other.

“The second installment to my urban range, Rickshaw is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and is the only white amongst its kin. I went against all rules here and blended unoaked Chardonnay with oaked Sauvignon Blanc to come up with this gem of a white. The risky decision to make this wine without any filtration allows it to run its own course like a rickshaw towed by its determined driver from point A to Z. Rickshaw is a great wine to be slurped with some deep fried chicken dunked in Tabasco sauce.” says Eddie, the Hong Kong born, Australian bred wine maker.
